Newcastle Switch Their Attention To Second German Forward – A Young Miroslav Klose

There’s news in German magazine Bild today that Newcastle are interested in signing 23-year-old German forward Davie Selke who plays for Hertha Berlin.

The forward has played for all the German youth sides through U21 level (16 appearances – 9 goals) and represented Germany in the Olympics of 2016 (5 appearances 2 goals) in Brazil.

He moved to Hertha Berlin from RB Leipzig only last summer for around £7.5M and in 16 appearances this season he has scored 9 goals.

Davie Selke – 23-year-old Hertha Berlin forward

Stoke City and Newcastle United have been watching the player, and Bild reports both are interested in signing the striker who stands almost 6ft 4ins tall.

It’s unlikely Hertha would allow their striker to leave this month, but perhaps Selke could be a target of Newcastle’s this summer.

Former Germany striker Klaus Fischer described Selke as being a “young Miroslav Klose”.

That’s because he has similar strengths in the air as that of Germany’s all-time record goalscorer; Klose scored 71 goals in 137 International appearances for Germany.

The player himself says that former Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez is his idol.

If he’s like either of those two great German strikers, he can definitely do a job for us at Newcastle.

As well as trying to buy players this month Rafa Benitez will also be testing the waters for players who could be available this summer.

Rafa needs to spend some big money this summer if he is to stay at Newcastle, whoever the owner is at that time.

We are hoping we will have new owners who will invest heavily in Newcastle.

Rafa can also fund some incoming transfers by selling players like Aleksandar Mitrovic, Jonjo Shelvey, and Chancel Mbemba.

Comments welcome.

So how many signings can we get in 7 days ? Probably only 4 days left as Charnley and Ashley don’t work weekends and then we have Burnley…..

My only worry would be with Schurrle is his injury record its not as bad as Sturridge but he does miss a lot of games

Still hopeful we can get Slimani hes everything Mitrovic should be (and maybe will be in a few years but we can’t wait that long!)

My only worry about signing a young striker is they just choke in the pressure of playing at St James’s !

We really need an experienced marksman who can take a chance without worry like when Sunderland had Defoe he would always be able to take a chance to get the jammy buggers a win or a point !

Yup we need a clinical finisher that has experience in the prem. We can’t risk it with a hot prospect with no experience. We can’t chance that st this stage.

I have a feeling we are trying for loads of strikers with the aim to get 2 in. I wouldn’t be surprised to see mitro, Gayle and shelvey leave if that happens.

Newcastle has a scouting team at Dortmund vs Berlin on
    Friday evening
Everyone assumed it was André Schurrle they were looking at
However this lad scored for Berlin.
    Berlin also played 4 – 2 – 3 – 1 vs Dortmund’s 4 – 3 – 3
Pundits and press not doing their homework again.

    REPOST

It’s quite understandable that we don’t want to transfer Mitrovich and Shelvey, who are arguably our best two players, to our relegation rivals.

Equally, these clubs don’t want to transfer any of their players to us. Also, many of the players in the top clubs are financially unobtainable.

It therefore should be no surprise that the club are looking to Europe. It’s a lottery as past and current experiences have included some successes (Albert, Ginola) and some failures (Jon Dahl Tomasson, the de jong brothers and Sels).

You seem to know more than most.
Where’s your money going. I rather like Slimani. I can just visualise a Jonjo ball over the top of a high line square defence for Islam to run onto. Pace and a proven goal scorer means we can play the compact containment game 4-2-3-1 and start picking up points HOME and away. We need shock and awe at home to dispel a home crowd than doesn’t tend to fully support. Singing in support of a goal scorer rather than the coach/ manager would be nice to hear. Let’s have a go at teams at SJP going out too win rather than not to lose.

Carl the scouts could have been looking at the goalies
    on Friday evening
Thomas Kraft or the Swiss Roman Bürki

Slimani ls the one for me like

Given the right service (which he would get off Rafa)
    he’d be dynamite.

    The Journal reported about Schurrle:

‘The German, incidentally, cannot get into the Dortmund team as 17-year old English winger Jadon Sancho has been starting ahead of the former Chelsea man…’

    Who is Jacon Sancho ?

Yeah there are also duds from every league. Thing is, it’s impossible to tell which way it’ll go. NUFC are in the horrible position where we keep having to gamble on cheaper “don’t knows”. One of these days we’ll hit lucky 😀

After doing the dennis wise scouting method on Jorgensen,I’d be disappointed it we got him.Even joselu would have scored all them goals in that league.
Slimani,Inheancho,Sturridge,or Sakho would be better than him IMO.
This lad above sounds canny too.

Hopefully if we get the lad it works out, from what I’ve seen of Jorgensen he will not improve our striking options. I honestly think Mitro is better than him.

Slimani on the other hand would certainly improve our striking options and he should be first choice for us in this window

Then the Bristol City LB and that’d be January I’d imagine.

Not having a go but Jib is right. I didn’t ever want to see you leave in the first place, but you were absolutely adamant about the takeover and what you would do if it didn’t happen. Plus you told me Rafa wouldn’t have to buy himself out. In the words of Jesse Stone ”If you don’t like the answers you’re getting, check your premises.”
