News today in the Mail that Leicester City striker Islam Slimani will likely be joining Monaco this month on loan.
That seems to rule out any chance Newcastle have of signing the talented Algerian International – a player we were hoping could arrive at Newcastle this month.
Leicester are said to be very close to agreeing a deal that would take the 29-year-old on loan to Monaco.
So one obvious question – why didn’t Newcastle get in there to get Slimani on loan, even if he’s in addition to Jorgensen?
Islam Slimani – Leicester striker very close to loan deal at Monaco
The answer is that Leicester City would not loan the player to a Premier League club and only sell him for £20M if he was to remain playing in the Premier League.
But as we reported yesterday we think Slimani would be a better buy for £20M than Jorgensen.
The loan fee is said to be £2.6M.
That’s certainly a similar stance Newcastle will likely take with Aleksandar Mitrovic.
We will only sell him to a relegation-threatened Premier League club if they pay £14.5M – preferably up front – for the Serbian striker.
It looks like Newcastle could be all-in now for Danish striker Jorgensen from Feyenoord, so let’s hope we can get him through the door in the next day or two.
