Rafa did talk about the Chelsea game at his news conference this afternoon although most reporters were keen to find out more about was happening on the transfer front.
He will use the squad and Rafa doesn’t think he will need to use many youngsters since there are enough senior fringe players who need a game.
And Newcastle have proved over the last several games that we can change about five or six players without too much of a change in the way the team plays.
That’s (very) good.
Rafa will probably pick his strongest team for next Wednesday night at home to Burnley and use about five different players on Sunday afternoon.
But Chelsea will also play a weakened team, and if we can play well in defense, we will always have a chance to at least get a draw.
This is what Rafa has said about injuries and the game at Stamford Bridge:
“If we have a squad strong enough to compete, we will see. I will use the squad, for sure. We have to do everything right and they have to make mistakes.”
I am just focused on my team, my players, and that’s it. Before the last game, I said I have good memories of Chelsea and I have good friends there.”
“Florian Lejeune has been running. The only player to miss out is Jesus Gamez.” “The rest are OK and some have little issues.”
“It is an amazing competition (FA Cup) but you have to be realistic. The top six are still there.”
“Every game is important. We know how massive it is to stay in the Premier League with the money around.”
“With more money, you can improve your team.”
