Newcastle are giving a decent demonstration this month of how they are unable to make decisions in the transfer market, and why it takes us weeks and often months to sign one player.
We don’t know if it’s Lee Charnley or Mike Ashley or a combination of the two.
But Newcastle must get a lot better at signing players quickly, and trying to sign Nicolai Jorgensen has been painfully slow – or should we just say painful?
Under Mike Ashley, we should also be willing to spend money, but maybe that will be irrelevant because this could be the last transfer window for Newcastle with Mike Ashley as the owner.
But we have this negative sneaking suspicion that before the summer comes, Mike Ashley will announce he cannot get the price he wants for the club and will, therefore, take Newcastle off the market.
That would be for the third time.
That will be a lot more likely if the new Premier League TV rights deal is massive and more than the current £5.1B package, which runs out in the summer of next year.
Nicolai Jorgensen – a target of Newcastle’s this month – is there time to bring him in – before Christmas?
Newcastle fans are frustrated the club always seem to struggle in the transfer market and take so long to sign players.
At how not to get things done then play the joker card of ‘couldn’t quite get it over the line.’ Has no bloody intention of spending His money on #nufc.

If we don’t get this striker in soon we won’t have time to get the left back, the keeper & number 10 and that in. Cough. #nufc
— Kind of a big deal (@grahamcrosby) January 27, 2018
Id be shocked if we sign anyone.. fans have been getting played most of the window thinking there could be a takeover, when the club were actually just wasting time. #NUFC
— Football Barmy (@wideon) January 27, 2018
So I know it probably wont happen…but, how would people rate the transfer window out of 10 if we finished the month with these incomings: Kenedy, N’Diaye, Dubravka, Jorgusen and/or Slimani with Mitro and or Gayle outgoing #NUFC
— Darren (@DAZM6988) January 27, 2018
I can only assume Lee Charnley approaches transfer negotiations as if he’s bartering for snide kegs on holiday. The price is the price man!!!! #NUFC

God I hope we get taken over and Rafa stays. That is the sort of planning and know-how we have lacked for years, ever since Sir Bob and King Kev #nufc
— GM (@FightingDoc14) January 27, 2018
I rate him highly. With a run of games in a half decent team, he will prove good business. I’d love him at #NUFC
— Tommy Strong (@strong_te) January 27, 2018
Jorgensen,N’diaye & Shurrle would be good signings for #nufc and would give everyone hope of staying up. But as per usual the club just can’t see it. I’ve never known any other club to focus on 1 player at a time. It’s so embarrassing how the club is ran.
— Danny Roberts (@dannyJroberts26) January 27, 2018
Really changed my mind in this Jorgensen lad, I was convinced that he wasn’t a Rafa target, but I think it’s obvious now he is, if Rafa rates him, so do I, really want us to tie it up, at his age he could hit the ground running. Experienced player.#nufc

#NUFC must have spent more on scouting fees than on actual players in Mike Ashley’s time.
Wasting Scouters’ time.

I genuinely feel this Jorgensen deal has been agreed ages ago. It’s just to drag it out so no other signings we need are mentioned #NUFC
— GreatDaneMish #6 (@TheShieldsOne) January 27, 2018
can’t help but make me laugh that @NUFC won’t pay the money/have submitted a bid lower than Jorgensen is valued at. Yet Ashely has the nerve to call Staveley for doing the same when trying to buy the club. Someone have a word with him. p.s. that word might be hippocrate. #NUFC

Comment #1I reckon, Mitro won’t feature either Sunday or Wednesday as the club will be hoping for a last minute bid to come in for him. And if none are forthcoming and we don’t get a striker in he will get games between now and season end. At least i hope he gets to play.

Comment #4Jorgensen does look like he’s the striker we’re going to sign and it doesn’t look like he’s setting many fans pulses racing.
Like most I’ve barley seen him play so I’ve watched around a dozen or more YouTube videos.
I like the fact he seems comfortable to shoot with either foot and seem to be strong enough to get his head to it even surrounded by a couple players. His anticipation seems really good which is a cracking quality for a striker. He holds the ball up really well and can play a decent pass to keep the foward momentum. He doesn’t lack confidence which we’ve missed up front.
The Dutch league isn’t the greatest but he’ll have better players around him (sort of) and I’m happy to give the lad a chance if he does sign.
He might be a world beater or a dud, only time will tell and you can’t write him off without a ball being kicked. Good luck if you sign lad.

Comment #16Jazzy,
You forgot that totally fictitious bid for Charles Nzogbia for 12.5M on deadline day that they knew would never happen.
Anyone wondering why we’ve gone for Jorgenson and not Slimani or Sturridge.
From the Watford Observer
” It is unsurprising that Watford’s talismanic captain Troy Deeney receives the highest wage paid to players at the Vicarage Road club, earning £100,000 a week”
That’s why.

Comment #21What an awful article on Markovic. Doesn’t even come close to digging into the premise highlighted in the title.
I always thought he’d have been a good option for us. A manager to instill some discipline into him and Rafa could have been perfect.
Ah well clearly he doesn’t have the mentality required to be a good pro in the Premier League.

Comment #22“As of Sunday, it will be exactly four years since an opposition player was dismissed against the Magpies in the Premier League.
“It is 115 Premier League games – and a staggering 1,460 days – since an opposition player was sent off against United,” says The Chronicle.

Comment #23Think it might be because we’ve generally been so bad over the last 4 years that opposition players haven’t had to react in frustration to us or commit fouls in order to win a game.

Comment #24I don’t know what the delay is about. Offer 18 mil for the Dane and sell Mitrovic for 10 or 12 and net outlay is 6 mil with no extra wages ! How difficult is that ? I’m beginning to wonder now as it’s getting close to end of month! Ashley is a freakin curse on our club!

Comment #26I suspect that Mr Ashley sets a transfer limit both in terms of price and wages.
Mr Charnley will have no authority to exceed these limits. He probably can’t pay over the odds for his custard creams.
Rafa knows this and at present is prepared to kow tow to the system. But come September if we have not seriously improved the squad he’ll be off and Mr Ashley will quickly find out how much his asset is worth I reckon it will drop by 25%.

Comment #27I’m thinking the Dutch league is no worse than the bottom half of the premier league and as for Gayle etc doing better how many chances for points missed because we can’t hit an open goal ? The fact this guy does in my eyes suggests he’s a decent option and if our team can create glaring chances why would this confident fella not be able to at least hit the target ?

Comment #34Face facts –
Charnley’s MD in name only and does nothing more than make the phone calls relating to potential targets;
Ashley doesn’t want to spend;
Ashley defines the budget;
Ashley or Barnes are micromanaging the club and no doubt have to sign off any spend;
Rafa’s given them his wish list and I’ve no doubt that Charnley’ll go through the motions without any intention of spending:
Charnley seems to have done nowt to clear out any deadwood at realistic prices or even paying them off thus frustrating the sell before buying dictat: A Catch 22 for Rafa. Are they trying to force Rafa into walking?
What’s puzzling is for the sake of spending £30m or whatever, Ashley’s prepared to take the big hit of relegation – for the third time! Is he just getting his own back for the fans hating him – ala Trump?
