Kelechi Iheanacho was transferred from Manchester City to Leicester City on a five-year contract last August for a reported £25M fee.
But he hasn’t seen much playing time with Jamie Vardy being the striker up front this season for the Foxes.
Newcastle were very interested in signing Iheanacho in the summer, but we didn’t have that money available to bring the Nigerian International to Tyneside.
In face Rafa spent only about £19M net in the summer for six players including the £6M for Mikel Merino from Borussia Dortmund – never mind spending £25M on just one player.
Kelechi Iheanacho – scored two goals for Foxes yesterday in 5-1 win at Peterborough
Iheanacho has made only two Premier League starts this season, and he wants to leave Leicester City this month
Since then, though, he has made just two Premier League starts, and he wants to leave the Foxes this month.
The youngster wants to maximize his chances of making the Nigerian squad for the World Cup in Russia this summer – he has 13 caps with 8 goals for his country so far.
It’s not clear if Newcastle would take him on loan or hope to sign him for around £25M or more in the next three days.
But the Mirror report is that Newcastle may make a move for him if they cannot get Danish striker Nicolai Jorgensen through the door.
If they want to sign Jorgensen it’s straightforward – pay the £20M they want and give Newcastle and Rafa Benitez a chance of staying in the Premier League.
And also take Kelechi Iheanacho on loan if we can do that.
If only Mike Ashley had some ambition for Newcastle that matches that of manager Rafa Benitez and the fans – but he doesn’t.
We understand he cannot even spell the word.
