Rafa Talks About The Forgotten Man At Newcastle

It looks like Aleksandar Mitrovic will be staying at Newcastle after all, with no bids of around £15M coming in for him and Newcastle leaving it very late to sign a new striker.

In fact, we haven’t sold anybody so far with other players like Jack Colback, Sadio Haidara, and Henri
Saivet also for sale this month.

Mitrovic was all ready to leave the club this month, so he can play regularly and increase his chances of getting into the Serbian squad for the World Cup in Russia this summer.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – still at Newcastle

But that’s almost a certainty given the crucial goals he scored for his country in qualification.

Rafa was asked recently if the striker had played his last game for the club:

“If he stays here, he can play. If he doesn’t stay, he will not play. But, at the moment, he’s our player.”

“I have no idea at the moment if we can bring in a new goalkeeper.”

“We’re trying to do business. Still, we’ll see, as we have time. Hopefully, we can do something.”

Newcastle are not heavily linked to any striker at the moment other than Nigerian International Kelechi Iheanacho of Leicester City on loan – but that has to be a long shot at this point.

We may sign 29-year-old Sparta Prague goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on loan with an option to buy him in the summer.

But we need a striker brought in, and there’s much time left.

It will be the ultimate in incompetence if Newcastle fail to sign a new striker before the transfer window closes late tomorrow night.

    Well it’s something for them.
Crystal Palace have agreed an £8m fee with Preston North End for striker Jordan Hugill.
The 25-year-old has scored 10 goals for the Championship side this season.

    Did anyone replace Carr ?

Without looking at the facts, it just seems that since his departure the club’s ability to get players over the line has slowed dramatically to the point (I hope not but it’s looking increasingly likely) that it actually stops.

Easily our best striker in my opinion I would keep him and bought in another top striker and cut my loses on Joselu already and kept Gayle unless a £15 million bid comes in that we can reinvest, but we never reinvest so I would of kept him until fat man is gone so he can’t pocket more money.

Mitro doesn’t fit the mould of a striker Rafa wants. Mainly temperament. It’s clear that he hasn’t been getting any games because at this stage he is simply an asset. Rafa wouldn’t risk him getting injured just before the window especially when he needs his sale to fund the transfer of a striker he actually wants.

Now we come to the close of the window, if as I’d expect nothing happens then Rafa is smart enough to know that Mitro could very well be the man to save us from relegation. If he does, his value only increases, if he doesn’t, there will be plenty of interest in him at a bargain Championship player price.

    Tramp,

‘…Mitro doesn’t fit the mould of a striker Rafa wants…’

What is the mould that Rafa wants ?

Joselu is not quick and agile. He cannot bully defenders. He isn’t a prolific scorer.

Anyone know why mitro never gets his game scores goals for fun for his country lots of headed goals every time we cross the ball in at the min nobody there. I think it’s about time rafa took a risk and start attacking teams especially at home where most of the time we look like the away side we keep playing like this we are going down. Take the shackles off rafa have some Faith in the players for god sake have a bloody go ……..

I’d like to see Murphy and Kennedy on the wings against Burnley.

Bit sick of Ritchie throwing a tantrum when he loses the ball or gets tackled. If he concentrated more and kept playing until the whistle he would have won the ball back on many occasions.

He looks unhappy, maybe with his performances who knows, he’s showing little of the defending and work rate of last year and no where near as effective going foward. For me he wouldn’t be starting.

The logic behind this transfer window is baffling, Ashley wants to sell the club but he wants £300m or more, why gamble on transfers and risk losing millions more? if we go down he wont he get the £250m offer he knocked back. At this moment we are looking odds on to go down as other clubs around us are buying to strengthen their squads.

I must say, after the shambles of the last 3 months I think Mitro should be given a chance, even last 30 minutes is a start – not last 10.

Rafa wants players who will listen and follow instruction but bigger than that he wants maturity. He often speaks of the importance of players settling locally, he’s a family man and he is very humble with it. I just think perhaps he doesn’t see Mitro as mature enough, yet.

Stoke and West Brom have brought in reasonably high profile signings while we’re left with Kenedy.

    Morning all
For me I’d rather sell gayle then mitro…been less then impressed with his premier league performance’s…looks lost and out if his depth…and he could probs generate the most money out of our strikers…or at least similar to that of mitro…cant see us signing a striker now.

Should stick Ritchie at no 10 not as much defending to do put kenndy at left back the lads got pace so can get back to cover him and atsu would cause loads of bother down one side other side Murphy and yedlin mitro up front lots of crosses lots of goals.

    Optimistic Panda,

Can Rafa play Murphy, Kenedy and Atsu together ?

I’d be surprised if Rafa replaced Dummitt with Kenedy. Kenedy appears more effective in attack than in defence and wouldn’t be surprised if he plays him on the wing or even in midfield.

World class manager can only work and perform with world class players which RAfa is never going to get at newcastle under the current regime. And clearly he has already written off certain players from the current squad for whatever reason he deems justified of doing so.Now if we are not getting anyone by the 31st of january, where do we go from here? With the current squad and with players the manager does not feel fit playing under him and having only bagged this amount of points with already half the season gone, where does that leave us?

    Tramp,

You may be right as there is not a lot to complain about football wise with Mitrovich.

I guess he must have followed his managers instructions for the Serbian national team and his former club Anderlecht as he has been a prolific scorer for both club and country.

I would play Atsu at 10 together with Perez as the pair played well together.

Perhaps with Kenedy and Murphy on the wings with Diame and Shelvey in the middle?

First I’m not interested in GREDY COCK-ney, Penfold and any other arse lickers involved with what MIGHT be happening it’s all BOLLOCKS !
    F O O T B A L L O N L Y !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Give Mitro a game not 10 mins at the end, The full 90 + Let him play as he does for his country. We have good quick wingers that can play wide. The back are good enough to sweep up what comes through the middle with the help of midfield. Give it a go instead of trying to be too clinical all of the time. Look at what KK achieved with his attack attitude. Well why isn’t tried every now and then and just let the lads have a go most of them are not daft they should know what to do.( I’m sure the likes of Shelvey etc will keep the rest in place ) If it works their confidence will bounce back with interest.
We need to try on the pitch, Forget everything else it’s just GREED we need football. It’s what we are as a nation. Get behind the team !

Fed-up with all the false in/out’s at NUFC, think the press have done a lot of damage to the clubs chances.

OK Rafas looking for a goalkeeper among other positions, two that have been mentioned Hart and Forster, both dropped from PL teams because they are not up to scratch, OK lets see if we can get NUFC to take them, 5 months ago we had a guy on the books called KRUL but Rafa off loaded him, now we are scratching around. One wonders.

Ashley, Charnley, Bob Moncur, should all be ashamed of the way they have allowed the club to disintegrate.
Rafa supposedly has a 5 million pound penalty clause in his contract, hes a very proud man but has that 5 million kept him here. There’s been a big turn over of PL managers this season and last but on the surface no one has come in for him to try and prise him away.

The only thing the club has got is the fans and hopefully all of the players appreciate this.
