Kenedy And Merino Both Start In A Strong Newcastle Side

Rafa Benitez has just announced the team to play at St. James’ Park tonight against 8th placed Burnley, who are a difficult side to beat.

Kennedy makes his debut in the starting lineup on the left wing and Mikel Merino is back in the side after missing the trip to Chelsea.

It looks like the two central midfielders will be Merino and Mo Diame, as expected and the former West Ham player gives some strength in defensive midfield.

Kenedy – makes his Newcastle debut as a starter tonight

The defense is as expected with our two first-choice full-backs Yedlin and Dummett back in the side.

This is what Rafa has said about tonight’s opponents, including their manager Sean Dyche:

“Dyche is doing well,” “I said managers they know the division, now they know the players, and they create this atmosphere that everybody is working hard for the team, so that is a bonus always.

“They are a good team, well organized, they know what they have to do to get points, so I think it will be tough, but to be fair any game in the Premier League is tough.”

“We know we have to do well if we want to get three points, and we have confidence that we can do it.”

“It’s the Premier League, and whether you play home or away the rivals are very strong. The main thing for us is to get three points.”

“If it’s at home, I’ll be happy for our fans too, but because it’s the next game, it doesn’t matter where it is – we will try to get three points.”

Fans are not too confident we can win the game tonight.

Kenedy straight into the side on the left-flank. Cannot wait to see this guy in action.

Diame has really stepped it up, easily the first name on the team sheet for the central midfield role. Happy to see Merino back aswell, I’d say that’s close to being our strongest side. With dubravka and Slimani to walk into the team.

Mitrovic loan deal is off, Mitro and Slimani together at set plays would send shivers down my spine, chances of seeing it are remote but I can dream.

I’d rather see Atsu on the opposing team sheet, he is dreadful, let’s face it, last season he was a championship squad player, but now due to our demise he is more regular, just sums up backwards we have gone.

I would have preferred to see Perez and Atsu interchangeable up front with Murphy on the wing.

Not sure about Marino. Prefer Shelvey but perhaps Merino can prove me wrong.

Bit surprised at that team, why no Shelvey, should be the 1st name on list and sticking Kenedy straight in not sure about that.

It’s such a delight to see a new name/ face in the starting 11, the beauty of having Kenedy is his ability to play in different roles.
Looks like its going to be a 4411 formation, but with the pace in the team could easily allow us to change during the game with Yedlin and Kenedy as wing backs, 3 man defence, Merino and Diame playing the holding roles and then let Ayoze, Atsu and Joselu all interchange roles up top.
I think we are likely to see a high press tonight, get in Burnleys faces and go at them, first time in a while I’m feeling optimistic about tonight’s game, going for a 3-1 win to the Toon. HWTL

Looking forward to the game tonight. Got some pace all over the park (Yedlin, Atsu, Kenedy) and some smarts in midfield. Hopefully we can get a result to give us all a bit of a much needed lift. It’s been a tough couple of weeks, but to see Slimani and Dubravka (?) in the stands watching a mighty Toon victory would just about make it all worthwhile. COME ON NUFC!!!!

Kenedy should see plenty of the ball. Joselu likes to drift deeper and usually out towards the left, so Kenedy will be receiving those give-and-go’s from Joselu. A debut for Kenedy like that of Asprilla in which he nutmegs a few players, and he will be an insta-legend.

Delighted to see Kenedy get a game, well actually I’m not to sure about that, never seen him play but instinct tells me not expect that much, after all Chelsea felt that they needed an upgrade on what was their 2nd/3rd choice because he wasn’t up to their 2nd/3rd choice level, says a lot for us doesn’t it.

We all know that Mitro is a dirty player but never really understood why Rafa just can’t cope with him or be bothered to improve him. When on the pitch, he is always a danger and I for one am sad to see him go if the loan deal goes through. Far rather have him than Joselu, the jigsaw, who goes to pieces in the box.
