Report – Good News On Islam Slimani Thigh Injury

The Mail are reporting that the thigh injury Islam Slimani picked up in training is not as bad as first thought.

Craig Hope is reporting the Algerian could even be on the bench on Saturday at Crystal Palace but Rafa will not want to risk him until he’s 100% fit.

We need the 58 times capped Algerian International in our games through the end of the season, and if he does well then hopefully we can sign him permanently in the summer for say £20M.

Given where we were last night, Newcastle could get Islam Slimani and Sparta Prague goalkeeper Martin Dubravka in on loan before 11:00 pm tonight.

Those two would be in addition to Chelsea’s Kenedy, and that would even be a good transfer window for Newcastle – 3 good players through the door.

We need Slimani and Dubravka signed on loan and then if we can beat Burnley tonight then things will look a lot brighter tomorrow morning.

And what’s happening to Colbeck? Is he having the rest of his time playing with the u23s while getting lots of wages?

And…. Why did it need Rafa to kick Ashley’s backside (thank you Mr Desmond – let’s hope Rafa thanks him and Amanda S for their help) before getting some movement? Could Ashley blame Barnes for being unhelpful and Charnley for being spineless? Probably.

    Essex….

    How long to kick off?

I would still hope we are going for another midfielder or attacking mid, we need someone that can get forward more and score goals. Kenedy and Slimani are good additions but neither has proved to be goal scoring talent in the prem.

It’s difficult t give an exact kick off time until we can be assure that Trashley has in fact the electricity bill. If not there may not be enough lecky to power the floodlights. THere’s very little actual cash around NUFC at present.

I didn’t want him when he came, didn’t think he was very good thought he’d be a squad player.
Imagine my horror as he became a regular.

The club should never have signed him, he would have got a big signing on fee and decent wages, he’s bang average. Wasn’t a improvement on anybody we had at the time, step back more like.

I can’t say I’ve ever thought Colback had a great game, we haven’t had value for money and now he’s being a kno8.

Just shows though, if he wanted to play he’s had a couple of chances to leave, he’ll go on a free get another big signing on fee and more wages than he’s worth, nice work if you can get it.

Then again in the summer Ashley and Colback will be gone, so I’ll take comfort in that.

Has Our Toon been on? He’s been an advocate of bringing slimani in all window. Be interesting to see his opinion.

If someone has come in for Colback and he has said no, it is solely because of the wages that he is on. Clearly Rafa has no intentions of playing him, drop him to reserves and let him rot, surely cancelling his contract should be an option.

True but we could use candles or torches that could confuse Burnley . most of us have been in the dark re this transfer window anyway so we are used to it
We could have a whip round for the meter I suppose

Here’s another useless fact for you all :
You know I mentioned Jon Dahl Tomasson, the last danish striker to play for NUFC. Well he played 23 games for the Toon in 1997 scoring 3 goals. I forgot to mention that we signed him from Feyenoord. Perhaps we’ve had a lucky escape with Jorgensen or perhaps the three stooges were aware of this already.

Hope Slimani is a success but these numbers don’t make good reading:

    Goals in league games

    13-14 8 in 26
    14-15 12 in 21
    15-16 27 in 33
    16-17 8 in 25
    17-18 1 in 12

Is this the answer to our goal scoring problems?

A win tonight is all that matters. It will make all the difference with the squad and give us a huge boost.

A loss or even an draw and this will be a rough week to get through.

Got to say I am a lot more happy about getting this man in over Sturridge who had one good season and it was down to Suarez and on top of that he is a China doll, Slimani is a lot more complete a player too, good with his head and feet.

As for the gk I have never felt it was a place we needed to strengthen really, I think we need forwards, midfielders and side back over a keeper.

    Tom –

Even if it isn’t a place to strengthen, it gave Woodman the chance to go out on loan which was far more important.

I’d guess the last 2 seasons 18 months that he’s probably started less than half of the games so would explain why he hasn’t scored as many.

Hoping anyway, really we want him on the pitch asap to get match fit and sharp, we need him to hit the ground running. It’s a definite upgrade on what we have.

That looks like a symptom of stagnating in the liecs squad. I think he has a chance of picking himself back up in a team where he will most likely be the main man. He cant be worse than Joselu or Gayle this season.

    OP

Oh yeh, agree it’s an upgrade but my concern is whether it’s a big enough upgrade to keep us up. He just seems like he’s never really been prolific apart from the odd season.

When brought into a club as a record signing you need to be doing a lot wrong to not get much game time, so what problems were Leicester seeing in him/his ability to not give him a crack after spending the best part of 30million.

Despite some of the unsurprising doom and gloom at times , I always look forward to the Toon Fans Geordie humour . Some of the craics are hilarious .
The point being that those who follow the Toon through thick and thin need a sense of humour to stop us all from going completely mad . Supporting the Toon is like an allegorical way of life’s trials and tribulations ups and downs but never a dull moment

In just league games in last season he scored 7 plus 4 assists in 23 appearances (10 as a sub). That’s not too bad. So probably better than what we have IF he can recover that form and the form he had in Portugal.

    Transfer Sage,

Decent reading when you think 16 /17 and 17/18 alot were from the bench.

Also when you go to deadline day and will only sanction a loan, you won’t be getting 1 in 2 striker who has played 35 league games a season.

It is slightly better, Joselu has 4 goals in 20 so not miles away from his record.

I just struggle to get excited over us signing a forward who hasn’t got a great goal scoring record when we don’t make many chances. He improves the team but not a great deal.

Just checking in from my holidays. I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised – I think Slimani has more chance of hitting the ground running than an untried Danish striker certainly less of a risk. I don’t know anything about the keeper but seems to have made some decent saves in videos I’ve seen.

You have to ask the question why was he on the bench though. Leicester play two up top and he was a record signing at 28million. Surely you’d expect him to start.
