Rafa Talks About Kenedy’s Debut And That He Can GIve More

Benitez wanted Kenedy ion last summer and his display last night showed that if he had been successful in August in getting him in on loan we could be better off in the league.

While lacking match fitness Kenedy is likely to start every game for Newcastle and his skill last night was there for all to see.

He set up Lascelles’ great headed goal and got us the penalty in the first half that Joselu failed to convert.

Maybe Matt Ritchie will start more games now?

Kenedy – excellent debut by the 21-year-old

That miss and another Joselu miss in the second half cost us 2 vital points last night – but we still have all to play for.

Again we lost the game with a late goal from Sam Vokes.

His initial header was saved by goalkeeper  Karl Darlow but the ball hit him on its way down from the crossbar and went in.

No luck there for Newcastle and Karl.

This is what Rafa Benitez said bout Kenedy and the game last night:

“We needed two or three things to give the team confidence when we have the ball.”

“Kenedy has to improve his match fitness, but in terms of the quality he has – good deliveries and good passes – he’s giving us something, and hopefully he will give us more.”

“It’s a pity, because don’t have too many penalties,”

“When we had to decide, it’s normally Ritchie. Ritchie was not there, and Joselu was second.”

“He has not practiced too much, because we didn’t have penalties all season. “It wasn’t a good penalty, but we have to carry on.”

“I think we have seen some games where we deserved to win and we couldn’t do it,”

“The reality is that we’re creating enough chances to win games, but we’re not defending in the way we have to defend if we want to be sure we can win games at home.”

“It’s a pity. It’s a lack of experience at times. We’re in the second part of the league, so we have to learn quicker.”

“And don’t make these mistakes in defense and take our chances when we have chances. “We had enough chances to win the game.”

“That’s it.”

We went up one place in the league to 14th and a few wins can see us quickly climb that league table.

We overtook Huddersfield who have one point from the last four games and we are now ahead of both Brighton and Huddersfield – the two clubs promoted with us.

Kenedy looks like he will be our Man of the Match for last night, but Mo Diame played extremely well and is now looking like the player we thought we had signed in the summer of 2016.

Let’s hope Mo can keep up his good form – and Kenedy can get even better.

Watched MoTD and Kenedy looked like a more than useful addition.

    Catchy
You’re a sad case, an obsessive.

Who or what would you chew on if Rafa weren’t around? You’d find another target for your frustrations.

Why not try to see the bigger picture and realise that no matter who’s manager, the club’d still be a disaster as long as Ashley owns it? Vent your spleen at him and help the club move on.

Catchy, this season Lascelles would never have been in the team as you said he was our 4th best defender, you know far more than Rafa don’t you, you will be over the moon when he is gone at the end of the season and Ashley brings in another yes man for you to back like Mclaren.

Diame was absolutely immense last night.. If the rest of our attackers can play as good as him, we would be avoiding relegation this season.

Diame level of consistency has not been matched by anyone this entire season apart from lascelles.

But looking at the remaining fixtures, there’s very high chance we will get relegated unless we start taking the fight to the opposition especially bigger sides to cause an upset.

Sitting back for 75mins is rubbish management and rafa must be blamed.

    one fine day

come on, i think your clutching at straws mate, while those things did happen, they all still produced in many games for us too, so please don’t single out individual games from them.

i don’t think can name one player that Rafa has bought that is a first team must have, play every week, and in my opinion he seems to want just squad players that he can rotate every week, and to make it a little worse he wants players to fit multiple positions.

take just last night, Atsu has never had a good game on the right side of MF, both Murphy and Ritchie are our best on that side, so that made no sense.
Perez and Joselu, have never had a good game together and couple that with the fact perez is not a good no10 type player, he seems to be better as the front man, and i’m not saying he is a great CF, but he offers more than Joselu.

go back to the swansea game, all of his summer signings started on the bench, or injured, yes 3 on the bench, i thought he needed to by players to make the leap up not warm the bench.

he is not that good of a coach, i don’t see it on the pitch, and as far as tactics go, it take a real genius to defend for 70 mins

Kenedy looked head and shoulders above any other player on the pitch last night, augers well if he performs like that and he isn’t even match fit.

But I can’t believe this, “He (Joselu) has not practiced too much, because we didn’t have penalties all season. “It wasn’t a good penalty, but we have to carry on.”

If you are chosen to take penalties, bloody well practice them! it’s not as though you are so good you don’t need to practice certain aspects of your game.. like shooting, penalties and so on!

is there only one big picture?

    i see 2

1 we have a huge problem with the owner.
2 we have a problem with Rafa

while i would love Rafa to have unlimited funds to take us to the top of football, i think he has to also do some coaching, i think his biggest problem is he is a bad judge of player and seems to waste money on 5 players to get one good one, and in turn this is blamed on Ashley for not giving him even more money.

i remember when fans like you and jail said if we get rid of pardew we would end up with a poor manager, but somehow we got rafa.

All the years I have read this blog Catchy has moaned about everyu manager apart from Mclaren, god knows why he rated him? this is the man who rates Mclaren, thinks Lascelles should not be in the team and who though Kenedy was a pointless signing, he would have loved the fact that we did not win last night so he can continue his anti rafa campaign, I bet he is hoping we go down so Rafa will leave

If you have been assigned a task such as set pieces, you should practice. Spending an extra 30 to 90mins a week will not eat into all that free time. Pope had a good game for Burnley which again indicates we had the right 11 on the pitch last night. We just have to continue with these type of performances to gain the 3 vital points the teams around us are all craving for.

Evidently our transfer business this time was a push to further trim the wage bill if possible, no net spend a must, and an exercise for Benitez to wring some juice out of the loan market.

This is Ashley’s book balancing pre-sale housekeeping and a blatant signal that he has washed his hands of NUFC as anything more than a saleable advertising mule.

I hope Rafa doesn’t take the negativity of fans on board who want to see some mythical free-flowing football energised by wonder players who will suddenly after three seasons prove to be more than the half dozen goals a season players they actually are.

If Mitrovic was our out of form second choice striker and Gayle in the reserves I bet right now there’d be hell on as to why our saviour Gayle wasn’t being played. We need to understand something – a top flight manager who sees these players train day in day out, and who is risking his career and reputation on a second relegation is supposed to be petulantly ignoring a Serbian player in preference to a Spaniard because he didn’t buy him? Are you for real? It’s obvious there’s something deeply political and business-oriented going on with these players that Rafa has little control over.

A poor coach ? Christ man.
Ok ask yourself what level jamalles less called was at when Rafa arrived .
How many shook heads when Rafa made the kid skipper ?
And after making him skipper was not scared to bench him when he had a mare ?..all part of honest man management .
Ask jamalle who has helped him most in his career ….Stuart Pearce ( no doubt one of your preferred choices) who treated him like hit after him and Dario’s had signed for us ?
    Or Rafa Benitez
Ask those who know Rafa from his spell at Chelsea , where he took a team imploding and won a euro trophy inside 6 months ( yes with very good expensive players granted , see where I am going with this?) why they are happy to leg Kennedy come here as they know he will develop under a class coach .On that note it appeared sturidge went to west brom mainly to be close to his mam in case he got the flu certainly not for footballing reasons until your mate pards .
Question a coach by all means it’s part and parcel of football but you are obsessed .
I no longer bother getting on here on match days as its only a matter of time befour you and Hwa n co appear running the same script all 95 mins .
Incidentally if you got your wish and Rafa bailed now who would you bring in ?other than yourself of course ? I am all ears mate !

Catchy – do you not recognise we have a limited squad who are fighting for everything?
We played a very good side and arguably should have won. Unlucky really.
Our issue all season has been not converting chances. Gayle and Joselu just aren’t accurate enough. They try but that’s it. Slimani could be the answer.
The team do not and rafa certainly do not deserve criticism. The owner is why we are in this position. We’d be mid table if he had bought us just 1 quality striker in the summer. He didn’t.
Slating Rafa is ridiculous. He’s got this team fighting and defending as a unit, something I’ve rarely see under ashleys tenure.
On top of that rafa recognises the importance of the club to the community just like Sir Bobby did.
Have you ever heard the phrase ‘if you don’t have anything positive to say don’t say anything at all’. You need to stick that above your computer…If you can’t adhere to it then you can stick it somewhere else along with your negativity.

Diame was by far the best player on the pitch yesterday, we had so many chances and just couldn’t put them away. Kenedy was also good on debut, when joselu stepped up to take the pen I said he’d miss it. Why on earth give it to him?

If Mitro had been used earlier in the season we would be better off points wise but all is done now and we have Slimani. Tough game coming up but we need a win or relegation will become a reality soon

Ole? Mclaren back? the reason people are looking to take the club on is because we have a manager like Rafa, if he goes we will be stuck with Ashley as no one will be interested if we have Maclaren & co back as manager

Attack and we would have people coming on here blasting the manager and defenders when we conceded.
Defend we would have people coming on here blasting the manager and strikers for not scoring.
Some people just like to scapegoat certain players for whatever reason.
The last I looked Joselu and Gayle were amongst the top scores in all the teams outside of the top 8 teams, to me that says they are not really much better or much worse than the other teams strikers around us in the table.
The last I looked, our defence was near enough the best in the league outside of the top 8.
There are very small margins between all teams outside of the top 8 this season, goal difference will play a huge part come the end of the season.

We were unlucky not to get 3 points last night, but like our toon has just said as soon as Joselu stepped up to take the penalty in knew he would miss, Rafa has to take some responsibility for that, he wasted 5 million and starts him regularly away, sends out a far better player on loan, which doesn’t make sense. Good job Pards didn’t do it had he still been here.
We all know our squad is limited, Kenedy is a different class. Let’s all hope all our new loan signings turn our season around.

the thing most of Rafas x players say is he is a great tactician, maybe HE needs better players to deliver his message,

that is something we don’t have.

what we need is a coach who can build the players up, give them confidence and coach them.

people slate Shteve, but most players agreed he was a great coach, but not a good tactician.
