Newcastle Name Only 24 Players For Premier League Squad

Newcastle United named only 24 players for their squad for the Premier League for the remaining half of the Premier League.

PLayers who tuned 21 after January 1st, 2017 don’t have to be included in the list and therefore our loan signing Kenedy is not included.

Including only 24 players is to be expected with six players – Mitrovic (Fulham), Woodman (Aberdeen), Aarons (Hellas Verona – Serie A), Sterry (Crewe), and Saivet (Sivasspor- Turkey), Colback (Nottingham Forest) – all now out on loan.

Two center backs  – Australian Curtis Good and Ashington-born Macauley Gillesphey make up the 24 players, and they are unlikely to feature at all this season.

Both are left-footed and can also play at left-back.

Curtis Good – will become a free agent in the summer

Here’s the 24 man squad that Newcastle submitted to the Premier League yesterday with * indicating homegrown players:

Clark, Ciaran*
Darlow, Karl*
Diame, Mohamed
Dubravka, Martin
Dummett, Paul*
Elliot, Robert*
Gamez Duarte, Jesus
Gayle, Dwight Devon Boyd*
Gillesphey, Macauley*
Good, Curtis
Gutierrez, Ayoze Perez
Haidara, Massadio
Hayden, Isaac Scot*
Lascelles, Jamaal*
Lejeune, Florian Gregoire Claude
Manquillo Gaitan, Javier
Mato Sanmartin, Jose Luis (Joselu)
Mbemba, Chancel Mangulu
Murphy, Jacob Kai*
Ritchie, Matthew Thomas*
Shelvey, Jonjo*
Slimani, Islam
Twasam, Christian Atsu
Yedlin, Deandre

Curtis Good signed for us from Melbourne Heat six years ago and he has not been a success at Newcastle mainly because of all the injuries he has sustained.

He will leave Newcastle as a free agent at the end of June when his contract expires.

If Rafa is still here is the summer and we are a Premier League club he will make lots of improvements in the squad for next season.

Rafa will get significant transfer funds whoever the owner is because of the significant money Newcastle will get from the Premier League in May.

For a second I thought Jonas was back. Never knew Ayoze’s surname was Gutierrez!

The one that leapt out at me was our old Left Back Robbie Elliott. For some reason it took me a couple of seconds to register.

Gayles initials are DD BG, he figuratively suffers Saturday Night Fevers from all the goals he misses!

If we can’t fill the 25man squad then why send 6 players out on loan?

Surely it would be better to keep them to fill out the squad in case of injuries etc. Survival more important than a 4 month loan in a lower division.

    Same here lol
Explains why he has his Christian name on shirt ,maybe didn’t want to crash on a club hero?
And I thought Curtis good was long gone …shame as he was promising over here in the A league until he got knackered on his debut with the Socceroos

Fair point but who who you have rather stayed behind?
Mitrovich I was hoping would be here as I think he could still play a pert this season
Arma too but I think he needs week on week games me for chance to develop.
Saviet too for same reason as mitro but the rest …meh

24 man squad with potentially 6-7 that will not play at all.

Curtis Good! I completely forgot about that one…

Lets hope Kenedy and Slimani will have an impact – I am not really getting the GK loan (then again Sels was an oddball as well)

Wonder why a kid like Gillesphey isn’t out on loan?

One less coach needed with a squad so small. MA has the club running on a very tight budget. Not spending money that we don’t have and he gets all the benefits.

‘Rafa will get significant transfer funds whoever the owner is because of the significant money Newcastle will get from the Premier League in May’ – whoever the owner is? Under Ashley?? History suggests otherwise Ed.

Interesting that Good and Gillesphey are included but other over age players are not, there’s no sign of Yasin Ben El-Mhanni, Liam Smith or Tom Heardman.
