With the six players leaving on loan on Wednesday – all but one of them – goalkeeper Freddie Woodman – don’t seem to have a future at Newcastle.
And it looks like Adam Armstrong who is on loan at Blackburn for the second half of the season may not fulfill the great promise he once had at Newcastle.
We could see a lot of players leave the club this summer, and Rafa will want to bring in some class players – with the emphasis on class.
That’s what has been missing, and maybe four top players coming in could make all the difference to the current Newcastle side, who have struggled in the Premier League this season – so far.
Rafa will also want to get the new players in early in the transfer window.
Steve Nickson – Newcastle’s Head of Recruitment
The recruitment team led by Steve Nickson are reviewing the players they have been scouting this season, and they are already preparing for the summer transfer window after putting in lots of hard work before the January window.
It’s a pity Ashley wouldn’t spend much money last month.
This is what Rafa has said about them and the summer transfer window in the Chronicle today:
“On Thursday, when I was talking with Steve Nickson and the scouting team – they have been working so hard for all these months.”
“I said: ‘Listen, take some holidays.’ But some of them are already just analyzing for the summer.”
“We are doing a review now of the players that we were following, how they are doing, and all these things.”
“But they are doing that already.”
We had pointed out this morning that Rafa could go after Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen in the summer and Rafa believes £20M is the going rate for a striker like the Danish International.
If Mike Ashley is still the owner – there’s a good chance of that – then we’ll have to see if he changes his stripes and gives Rafa some significant funds to spend in the summer.
Newcastle will have money in the coffers by then from the Premier League.
But whether Mike Ashley will want to spend too much of it is always the question – with an owner who has no ambition for Newcastle United.
