Rafa Gives The Points Total He Thinks Will Guarantee Newcastle Safety

Before today’s games, Newcastle are in 14th place and two points behind Palace who are one place above us; we are also just one point above the drop zone in the Premier League table.

But after today’s games, we could find ourselves in a much more perilous position before the game at Palace tomorrow.

A win in that game would raise the spirits of Newcastle fans and put Newcastle much further up the league table.

But we are now in a real scrap to stay up this season if we cannot get some wins on the board.

Rafa Benitez – 40 points should do it

We didn’t do well in January after getting off to a good start, and after beating Stoke away 1-0 on New Years Day we have had picked up only 2 points from 3 league games, and two of those were at home against Swansea and Burnley.

In the four league games in January we scored one goal in each of the games and missed too many chances.

This is what Rafa has said about what will make us safe this season in the Premier League:

“I think it will be 40 points. Why? Because you can see teams winning, losing or drawing.”

“But someone, anytime, will have problems and then 40 points, I cannot see everybody over 40.”

“Someone will have problems.

We are on 24 points from 25 games as we need 16 points from the 13 league games remaining.

That’s doable and wins make it so much easier.

Maybe we can get 3 points tomorrow at Selhurst Park and then need 13 points from 12 games.

Here’s where we are before today’s games.

It’ll be a messy and uncertain summer, whether we stay up or not.

It’s a roulette wheel league there’s about ten teams all as bad as each other , perm any 3 from them.

I think 38 pts will keep us up,but we need another big effort tomorrow against C Pal and play as well as we did against Stoke and the Hammers. If anything I think we can field a stronger side against Palace, If we do get 3 pts tomorrow we will survive but only if we start making the most of home advantage because the bulk of our remaining points must to come from Soton,Hudders and West Brom , Lets hope we don’t need to rely on Hail Mary passes against Chelsea.
