Fans Have Their Say On Massive Game At Crystal Palace

It’s another massive game and if we cannot win at Selhurst Park today we will sink further into the relegation mire.

A win would see us move up to 12th place just behind Watford.

We have exactly the same points and record after 25 games as we had two years ago under Steve McClaren,  having won six, drawn six and lost 13 for 24 points.

Kenedy – can he be the match winner today?

McClaren then lost the next four games before Rafa came in so hopefully, we can do a lot better than that.

I agree with Bren.

Criticism for Rafa.

Several of the last home games have been must wins and we’ve won none of them. Harder game today but the same result unfortunately. Another defeat for me, zaha and benteke will destroy our terrible defence and midfield.

Would be glad to see Joselu come on as a sub and score the winner today. But I would much prefer it if we were already winning before he came on for Islam ‘on a brace’ Slimani.

Anyone read carraghers article on us in the telegraph yesterday. Was in the indo over here. Long article basically saying we are about as attractive to good players as the cellulite on a lardy girls arse. Cheers scouser.

Outguess Rafa time, tricky one today!

    Darlow

    Yedlin Lascelles Clarke Dummett

    Diame Shelvey

    Murphy Perez Kenedy

    Slimani

4-0 to us. I reckon we are due a few slices of luck and a big win. We’ve broken our penalty duck (despite the the pathetic outcome of it) and it would seem that the Ref’s club have finally took note of my email of several months ago about the rule that we never get any and finally relented.

ed is on a roll this morning but one gem…..

“My wife and my daughters, but especially my wife, say, ‘Hello, haven’t you had enough, stay here.’”

“But at the same time, when you are at home and you are moving plates and glasses around the kitchen in 4-4-2, they say, ‘Go.’”

Both DubaiMickey and I mentioned it yesterday and if you scroll back several threads you’ll see that DM copied and pasted the full article.

It is a good article with a lot of home truths, if anyone else is interested in reading it.

Well this is my updated prediction for the starting line-up – providing Slimani is fit (and if he is, he should start, not be on the bench).

    Dubravka
    Yedlin Lascelles Clark Dummett
    Murphy Merino Diame Kenedy
    Perez
    Slimani

We need fire-power up front, the last 20 odd games have shown we don’t have it, hence starting him.

EGB, similar to yours, but will have Merino instead of Shelvey, and Darlow on the bench.

    3-0 to The Toon!

If you’re going to try and be obnoxious and get a rise out of people for no obvious reasons, other than maybe your playstation’s broke, you’ve got to put a bit more thought in to it. Sadly you’re nowhere near Jib’s level yet.

Not sure Slimani and Kenedy will start but maybe one or both will make a late appearance. It’s going to be roughly business as usual i think but perhaps the presence of the new boys will gee up our lads a bit to keep their places.

I am pretty sure I read a quote from Rafa saying this game has come too quick for slimani but can’t find it anywhere. Anyway I don’t think he is fit but will buzzing if he is as he’s a quality player.

Not much news since the Chronic posted this yesterday

“Speaking on the Leicester City loanee, Rafa Benitez said: “Slimani has been working with the physios and we will see if he is available tomorrow. We have another training session.”

He added: “The thigh injury isn’t as bad as first thought.”

That last bit could be read as “Thigh injury? Pffft.” 🙂

Gonna be nail biter this match. If Slimani isn’t fit to play then we should go with Perez up top and Atsu behind him with Murphy and Kenedy on the flanks. Diame and Shelvey in Midfield.

    HWTL!!

Tough decisions regarding the team coming up for Rafa. Adding the new keeper won’t change much except we might have some decent distribution and someone who actually claims the ball from crosses. 😉

It’s in midfield that the problems have always laid, but things are looking up. With Kenedy coming in it shakes things up with Murphy Ritchie Perez and Merino (I’m actually going right off Atsu now I think he’s too hit and miss) But sticking Slimani up front cries out for Shelvey to bash those long balls through for him. On the other hand… Hmmmmmmmmm.

    Reluctantly agree with Carra

Cant see what the deal is with the location. Newcastle can offer what any other major city in the uk can.

But unless there is a takeover i think we’ll struggle for top tier players. I do think ambition is a huge part of it.

My major fear is that we play slim and aggravate his injury. That would be galling.

My preferred line up would be

GK (ill trust rafa on this. I dont have an opinion)
    Yeddlin – lascelles – clark – dummet
    Diame – shelvey
    Murphy – -Atsu – Kennedy
    Perez

Shelvey over merino as i dont think hes match fit yet.
Dummet over manquillo because hes more solid defensively and will give kennedy freedom
Diame because hes in fine form
Murphy because i think hes shown more than atsu or ritchie on the wings.
Perez because i think hes played best as a striker this season. Although slimani for sure if hes fit.
Atsu in the no 10 spot because the choices are slim. An out of form ritchie or a psycholoigically damaged gayle. A fit merino should be there for sure but we know rafa doesnt fancy that.
