This Player Now In His Best Form Ever At Newcastle

Mo Diame had another very good game in the center of the park for Newcastle yesterday.

Mdisappointingpointing season last season and in the first part of this season, he didn’t do all that well.

But in these last four games he has been outstanding and like a tank in midfield for us.

In December he was even ready to leave Newcastle with Turkish sides Goztepe and Sivasspor both interested in buying him.

His big uptick in form seemed to have coincided with him being put on the transfer list.

Obviously, a well thought out move by Rafa.

🙂

Newcastle triggered the move when we agreed to meet the £4.5M release clause in his contract with the Tigers.

But Rafa seems to have found the key to get Mo playing at his very best.

Mo is now showing he’s worth every penny we paid Hull City for him back in the summer of 2016.

Especially if he can keep up his current form and we survive in the Premier League – then it will be hats off to Mo.

Keep it up Mr. Diame – you are doing great!

Mo Diame – scored after 22 minutes yesterday

    Repost from previous thread:

Decent performance yesterday. Palace are a better team than ours which was underperforming before Woy took over. I think at the start of the season, 4 points from 6 would have been a welcome return. This defence of ours is starting to run in beast mode – we just need to keep the ball better further up the pitch to take some pressure off them

Another repost – Ed’s bus is motoring today:

On survival requirements. 38 points has been enough to guarantee survival in 18 of the 22 completed Premier League seasons so far (82%). 37 points has been enough in 15 of 22 seasons (68%) and 36 points has been enough in 10 seasons (46%). Given how tight it is at the bottom, I can’t see 3 teams scoring more than 36 points, in which case one point per game average (our running total so far with 2/3rds of the season gone) in the remaining games should see us safe, particularly when our superior goal difference essentially counts as an extra point. It won’t be comfortable viewing, but this season was only ever about survival and if we achieve it, we can kick on

I think we will get 34 to 35 points nomore. Poor team and rafa doesn’t still know our best formation to suit these players. He tried 4231 but we dont have no10 or striker for that. 442 we dont have balanced wingers or mobile enough midfield i.e. the tiote cabaye partnership so that dont work. He needs to give 433 a proper go with diame merino shelvey across midfield not one of them as no10 but all as midfielders

He could even try 4312 like keegan did but rafa doesnt seem to be savvy to diff formations. Againt chelsea he failed with back 3 twice duno why he bothered if its gona be one off formation.

Funki, I think 37 but granted, it could be +/- 2, there’s no hard science behind my thinking other than extrapolating our current points per game. If 35 is our final total, I think we’ll struggle to stay in the division and I prefer to remain positive at this stage, given Slimani hasn’t yet shown what he can do and Kenedy’s fitness is not yet what it should be – both should improve our team and our results. I think the new keeper could be a factor too, giving us better distribution from the back but it remains to be seen if he will start or has been brought in as back up to Darlow and Elliot

Them mathematics you guys are doing is probably accurate. But, best to think lots of games remaining, lots of points for grabs, we are battling. We will get a break too, once or twice.

On the game, were it not for Darlow, who only conceded via a dubious penalty, we’d have easily lost. Clearly MOM. He flapped a couple but had no choice. The sitter benteke missed is because Darlow tipped it away at the last moment. Also, saved a one on one. Lad had a very good game.

Rob obviously anything can happen but we have chelsea at home last game. We have probably 2 winnable games b4 chelsea so hope we stay in contention then win them 2 games. We shall see. Just cos we gt slimani dont mean he will be 100 prcnt fit or hit ground running we dont knw whats gona happen

It wouldn’t surprise me if we got a draw against Man Utd and Liverpool and beat Bournemouth away in the next couple of games……

Reasoning being is that Man Utd and Liverpool are struggling at the moment against defensive teams who battle and Bournemouth are wide open for a counter attack !

We have Man Utd this weekend and then a 2 week break which in that time our 3 loans should be at 100% fitness and working with the squad

On a side note, while the window is still open for free agents, if psg terminates HBA, we should get him in a heartbeat and play him as a no10

In 3 years time if Mitro is a free agent we should sign him as a striker in an instant. (Looking into my crystal ball).

The bus has moved on (to coin a phrase), HBA will never return to SJP.

Wow, someone saying that Rafa, one of the most successful managers of all time, isn’t too savvy with formations. YCMIU !!!

In the last 2 months Rafa has played 4231, 442, 4411 and played 3 at the back. But don’t the let the facts get in the way though.

Ron, not sure we should be taking players whose contracts have been terminated. In HBA’s case it would suggest he hasn’t learnt any lessons since he was last here in terms of application, attitude and consistency of performance. Too big a risk for me given our situation, although I admire his skill.

If Ben Arfa isn’t good enough for one of top 5 club sides in the world (PSG), then he sure isn’t good enough for the Newcastle that Mike Ashley has built.

Just looking at our run-in, we have games vs Bournemouth (a), Saints (h), Huddersfield (h), West Brom (h) and Watford (a). I can’t see any of these beating us so conservatively 3 wins, 2 draws will give us 11 points, which will leave us a couple of points away from survival IMO. We have a good chance to pick up points away to Everton and Leicester and then Chelsea on the final day should be a dead rubber for them. I’m confident we can get what we need.

Totally agree mate, I fancy us to get enough points and I think we’ve got a shock victory in us, vs Man Utd, Leicester or Chelsea.

We may well have the ability to gain the points we need, but football has a lot of other factors to take into account, for example how many ref decisions have gone against us? We rarely get the rub of the green, and our players struggle to retain possession in any game home or away.

I want to be optimistic and believe we can get those points, but as it stands it gonna be a case of one game at a time and see where we are at the end of it.

Maybe lady luck will start to turn in our favor but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

I dont think ben arfa is anywhere near fit enough to play, barely played all season so would be a waste of time…even if he could suddenly act professional and ditch the attitude… basically what we have,we hold….these players are it so they all need to step up grow a back bone and start putting in performances especially at home…. thought some of our players were very soft yesterday pulling out of challenges and second to a lot of 50/50 balls…..need an attitude change.

    Oh Funki,

If only Rafa would listen to you. I see now that’s where it’s going wrong. You could sort him out and tell him a few things eh. Like how you could get a team with a net spend of 19M to be top 10 in no time, because let’s face it you do know better than him right?

Maybe you could get on the shortlist for the Real job, now ZZ has let Barca get 18 points ahead when Rafa was only ever a maximum 4 points behind them. Jeez I really do need to work on my tolerance towards delusional idiots.

    – – – – – –

Clark reminds me of Bramble, always a mistake in there. He stupidly could have got done for another pen for exactly the same offence at the end. Shame Lejeune is taking time to adapt.

On another theme. Re – Colback a very limited player who was often a liability giving away needless and dangerous costly free kicks. Was on stupid wages, refused to train, was told he was surplus and to find another club and yet hung around like a bad smell for ”geographical” reasons. Good riddance
