The Italian publication Calcio Mercato is reporting that Newcastle tried to sign Croatian international Lovro Majer from Lokomotiv Zagreb in January.
The 20-year-old is an attacking midfielder and he has been capped by Croatia once.
He has played 48 times for his club with 11 goals and 14 assists and because of his playing style he has been compared to the great Lionel Messi.
Celtic tried to sign the player last summer and Italian club Sampdoria are also interested in signing him.
Lovro Majer – 20 year-old Croatian International
The report in Italy says that Newcastle went after the 20-year-old but couldn’t reach any agreement with his club on price; he’s valued at around £16M.
Rafa has lots of contacts in world football and that will be a big advantage to Newcastle in bringing players into the club this summer.
But until we are safe in the Premier League Newcastle will not know which players they need to go after this summer.
If we are relegated it will be another disaster for Newcastle and we cannot believe Rafa would stay at Newcastle for yet another season down below.
It’s so important Newcastle stay up, but other teams around us in the league table are starting to win their games.
And Watford surprisingly beat (10 man) Chelsea 4-1 at home last night to go 5 points ahead of us and into 11th place.
We must find a way of winning games and maintaining our form for the full 90 minutes in games.

Comment #6GPP, yep Sports Direct shares dipped along with every other stock overnight – the Sports Direct dip was around 2.75%, which is obviously a hit to the fat one’s investment. They’ll likely rebound with the rest over the next few days, sadly (for Sports Direct, not the other stocks), when the market absorbs the impact of a surprise Federal interest rate hike or immediately if it fails to materialise. They’ve been trading consistently around 30% higher than in July last year and there is no reason I know of why they shouldn’t bounce back to that level

Like I say I’m no expert but my pal is. I don’t know if it’s good or bad this for us. Maybe look to claw back some money elsewhere.

Comment #8It’s good if he’s using separate cash to buy extra shares, providing of course that he buys them. Don’t hold your breath though, the tens of millions he gets in credits from the club every year (all merchandising, no ad fees etc.) far outweigh a small drop in the shares value.

that’s no big deal it’s only a paper loss due to the volatility of the market.
in fact it might just suite him if the rumours are true about him wanting to take SD back to a private company with him being the sole owner
if his holding in SD has gone down so has everyone else’s, it would make it cheaper to buy the shares he doesn’t already own

Comment #10GPP, I’m no expert either but keep an eye on financial trends for my job – our customers are the big global banks. In my opinion, anything that hurts the fat one in his pocket can only make him more likely to want to cash in on his unwanted investments, so what you posted was definitely good news as I hadn’t spotted the Snide Direct stock fall today

Comment #11The fact that Rafa is chasing a 20 year old
with a big future I find heartening.
It means he’s probably back on course for
regarding NUFC as a project.

Comment #14Rafa will not be here in the summer to chase this player.
His replacement will just fail to get him over the line.
Mr Ashley will be smiling, no expenditure and still all the money coming in. Until May 2019 when the brown stuff meets the circulation apparatus.
