Karl Darlow has started the last seven Premier League games, but he seemed out of sorts towards the end of the game against Crystal Palace last Sunday, after he had made some good saves in the game.
Not sure what that was about other than Karl is not consistent, even in each game.
But he has the talent and has had some great games for Newcastle since he signed for us from Nottingham Forest back in the summer of 2014.
It’s a good question as to whether new loan signing Martin Dubravka will start the game in goal tomorrow at home to Manchester United.
Martin Dubravka – doing well in training
That could be quite some debut for the Slovakian International goalkeeper.
The good news is that Rafa thinks Martin has made a difference already in training and has increased the competition between our three goalkeepers:
“We have had, more or less, the same situation all season,”
“The keepers are doing well making good saves and sometimes not as well. This has been one of our problems.”
“We are thinking ‘great’, and then we have this play or situation and we make a mistake and after we make a great save or something.”
“With keepers, with defenders sometimes, the consistency is the key. We’re trying to improve that, and the competition will be good for them.”
“He’s been training fine with the team,” “Slimani has been in and out of training.” “Martin has been fine.” “He’s quite clever.”
“He’s increased the competition between keepers. That is a good thing.”
“You see the three of them now and the way that they are working, they are really competing – that is the positive thing.”
“After, we have to decide. He was doing well.”
It’s a massive game for us tomorrow, and we have to pick up points at home to three top six clubs we have to still play.
They are Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Its start with trying to beat the Red Devils tomorrow and since our next game is in two weeks time we hope we can get a shock win in this game.
If Newcastle can play near our best and Manchester had an off day we can pick up all 3 points.
We are going to have to start winning games if we are to avoid another relegation.

Comment #1So a quick recap:
We have loaned a crooked forward and Rafa thinks as highly of our new keeper as he did about Sels!
At least Kenedy has been welcomed surprise…and thank God Rafa is not using him as a LB (was worried for a while)

Hopefully you will get behind Slimani, and not completely write him off before he has kicked a ball.

Comment #6Jib, in fairness sels was not a good advert for rafa’s transfer prowess. His first signing, budget OK at 5mill, disaster.

Sels came with a good rep. Didn’t he win a player of the year award in Belgium or something? He just hasn’t worked out in the PL yet. It happens sometimes.
