I said last week that we would probably get more points against Man Utd , Bournemouth and Liverpool than our last couple of games and well we have already matched our recent total!

Dubruvka looked a very calm keeper and came for every cross which we haven’t had for years as Krul, Elliot and Darlow usually never come when needed

Thought Lejuene and Lascalles were good together they need a run of a few games now as Clark has been all over the place recently Dummett seems to be getting better and better Yedlin still the weakest link at the back but does offer a lot going forward

Was great getting a peek at the vision Rafa has. Dubravka I was nervous about as I thought the occasion could get the better of him but he looked so unphased. Perfect character and confidence which we need.

If Slimani can stay fit he could be another piece towards the puzzle and we can start shutting games off earlier against lesser sides.

Yeah and he fully deserved that yellow card for diving as well.Lascelles is head and shoulders above both Jones and Smalling as well as others who have been picked of late to represent England.
Thought the Gallowgate looked strange pre match without the flags.. Bring em back makes the place look special

Imagine playing Man United on your debut packed with 52000 geordies, keeping a clean sheet and having a blinder. Man like Dubravka

Would prefer it if Southgate , Giggs stay away and don’t pick any of our players ! Tired of them getting injured when away for their teams

Everything that’s good about the club is Rafa, workrate, honesty, and authenticity of team come from the boss, every single player gives 100%, it’s a rare thing for our club lads.
Stop the criticism and support the boss. We are blessed to have him.
Great win, Keeper looks good, Shelley looks fit, we will stay up

    From Dubravka wiki page:
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Dúbravka

Martin Dúbravka (born 15 January 1989) is a Slovak footballer who plays for Newcastle United, on loan from Sparta Prague. Dúbravka is an absolute WALL. On the 11th January 2018 Manchester United encountered the WALL and were beaten 1-0 at St. James Park. Teams around the world are researching 24:7 into how they will score past this beast. #Dúbravkaisageordie

Aaah the power of words and a few stats via the BBC for those who like that sort of thing

Mourinho said after the game that Newcastle had fought “like animals” – and the hosts certainly produced a fierce and committed performance.
The Magpies made more sprints (553 to their opponents’ 490), ran further (115km to 105km), and in DeAndre Yedlin and Ritchie had the game’s fastest and most industrious players.
Manager Rafael Benitez may be hoping recent signing Islam Slimani, who missed this game, can add more to an attack that only managed three shots on target, but Ritchie was clinical when it mattered.

Smalling was penalised for a dive that allowed the impressive Jonjo Shelvey to send in a free-kick. The equally eye-catching Florian Lejeune headed it down, and Ritchie collected Gayle’s flick to shoot past David de Gea.

It was along the lines of

It’s disgraceful the way some PL players flaunt
their money .Take Diamé he had £90 million hanging
out his back pocket all afternoon.

Wish people would stop saying we have a “championship” squad a lot of our players have over 50 premiership appearances if not more!!

Defence and Midfield are mid to lower table premiership its just our strikers that have not been good enough

As great as this result was, let’s not kid ourselves….our marking in our own box is still atrocious.

Palace could have had 3-4 goals had they finished better, and Man United could have had 2-3 as well.

Dubravka was terrific, but we’re still riding our luck defensively…

Lejeune was clearly a key buy by Rafa for the team but we’ve been without him for a lot of time thanks to Harry Kane and poor refereeing when he should have been sent off. Man City have been asking for protection for their players well that’s not how it works – it’s the inconsistency of refereeing decisions that causes the problems. Hindsight and all that but if we’d had the Lejeune of today playing in more previous games you can’t help thinking that our points tally would be greater.

Rafa’s biggest decision today was not to play Slimani. While he maybe fit clearly he isn’t “match fit” and as we have some important games yet to come where he’s going to be needed that looks like a really good decision. I would think that after today he’ll be like a lion with raw meat and wanting a piece of the action. With him breathing down your neck it’s no wonder Gayle upped his work rate – together they could be a deadly combo.

Watching rerun, the Smalling / Gayle incident on the corner of the 18yard box was a stick on penalty like, not given.
Gayle is on the ref’s list of divers I reckon, they don’t want to give him the decision. What a great result this was today man, especially when you put it in context. Other teams winning round us all weekend, the pressure on us to get something was huge!

About the flags or lag of them
I had heard that they’d been banned at least today on the old “Health and Safety” grounds. Probably at Ashley’s request ?
Anyway without them the fans could get on with being more vociferous and supportive.

To flag or not to flag that is the question.

Definitely on Ashley’s request mate. Liverpool have a massive flag across the kop every home game, And I’m sure there are many more flags to boot at other ground’s.
For me the Gallowgate looks better for them than without

Bunga its a stupid saying that annoys me too same regarding players
We have a championship strike force is closer to the truth
Its like people hating on ritchie for me one of the most important players we have this season
But just because hes been out of form for a bit (since he was told to look after yedlin btw) hes not a prem player lol same with shelvey look at his pass to ritchie today, just offside, but just imagine if he had a striker to do that to every game hed be an assist king!

I have to confess to being one of the doom and gloomers when the team was announced. I really couldn’t see how we would score and Slimani still being injured filled me with despair. However today’s heroic win shows why we support this great club.

Well done to Rafa and every single member of the team.

The lack of flags today was down to lard arse getting the hump over the banner that was unveiled at the start of the Burnley game.

Think it touched a nerve. There’s me thinking he didn’t have any 😳

Is there no EPL football next week or is there some cup games being played and it’s just us?

If that’s the case it gives some of the other relegation fighting teams a chance to drop themselves further in it.

Yeah this season we have more than matched a lot of teams and with a better finisher would already probably be safe

Everton , Bournemouth, Swansea, Burnley all came up here and were battered for lots of the games but we just couldn’t finish the chances off
