Who Was Newcastle’s Man Of The Match Against Manchester United?

Newcastle put in a strong workmanlike display against Manchester United this afternoon at St. James’ Park and came away with a terrific 1-0 win and all 3 points.

We now move up to 13th place in the league table with 28 points from our 27 games and a goal difference of -11.

That’s now 4 points better off than we were under manager Steve McClaren two years ago when we were relegated.

That was also our 7th win of the season and we must say before the match we thought we had virtually no chance of getting the win and were hoping for a miracle.

And that’s what we got with some excellent performances from some of the Newcastle players who played their hearts out for the shirt.

That was so inspiring to see this afternoon.

Matt Ritchie got the winner after 65 minutes.

Not bad for a (mostly) Championship side!

Brilliant, battling performance today, but wow we needed it or could be sat in a very uncomfortable position right now!

Shelvey and lascelle were brilliant. Lejune and diame pure solid.

Gayle with a brilliant double block. Lovely lay off for the goal aswel. Keeper was brilliant also. Whatever his name is lol.

Ritchie who i thought did nothing the whole game apart from roll the ball into the back of the net lol.

I’m sick to death of these big time footballers showing off their wealth.
We’re one of the most working class cities in the country but diame has the cheek to go around with £90 million in his back pocket!

I was torn between Shelvey and Dubravka for MoM. I went with Dubravka, but am glad to see it’s neck and neck between the two of them. The entire team had a great game, that being said.

Does anyone know if with an option to buy other teams can come in also or do we have first refusal. I think other teams will come in for dubvraka if he carries on like that.

Not sure Nufc-83…we purchased Merino early, I don’t see why the same can’t happen with Dubravka.

I think we were unlucky in the previous two matches too.
However, for me the most surprising and refreshing thing has been the performances of Diame in the last 4/5 matches. He may not win MoM this time but for consistency he has been the best team player in the last 4/5 games. Diame will be critical to our survival because it seems that Hayden is not Premier League standard.

    Loved the game today
I thought Shelvey, Diame, Lejeune, Lascelles and Dubravka were all excellent today.
I could rave about that performance for days but I won’t bore you with it.
I do think yedlin didn’t have the best of games – he got beaten far too easily and was offside a couple of times – But that’s water under the bridge.
Today reminded me why I dislike Man U – the way the commentators call them “united” like we don’t exist and how on the tv it feels like I’m watching Man U playing just another team. The ref was shocking – the only tricky decision he gave us was the smalling dive !
To be fair, Jose was class in his post match interview.
Onto Bournemouth now – does anyone know why there’s a 2 week break? It always seems to happen when we’ve just had a good result.
    HWTL In Dubravka we trust

What a game wrote on one of the other posts could be the game to catapult us to safety sure hope so.

May not have had as much action as people wanted with transfers in January but the business so far has looked class if Slimani can produce what Kenedy and Dubravka have so far looks really promising.

So much to say about today’s game but would rather just enjoy it and get ready for Bournemouth who got thrashed by Huddersfield and will certainly be looking to make amends at home , we owe them though for stealing the points at SJP really late so let’s repay them Howay The Lads!!!

    I couldn’t find a single player who didn’t put in a 100% effort today.
Personally I voted for Shelvey, but I really wanted to vote for all 11 so good was the performance.
Let’s keep this up and relegation fears will soon be a distant memory.

    HWTL!

SredniVashtar I thought the ref gave us all the decisions (barring a penalty on Gayle that was dubious and probably outside the box).
