These Were Newcastle’s Best Two Players Yesterday – Two Monumental Performances

It was a game and result that Newcastle fans dream about – beating a top football club at home at St. James’ Park in front of a sold-out 52,300 fans.

And we also got our credit for winning the game and out-fighting the more famous Manchester United players.

Rafa worked all week with our players putting together a game plan to win the game and combat the many expensive stars who play in red.

And it all worked beautifully and first of all, we have to say every single one of our players played their hearts out yesterday and did their job.

We were proud of every single one of them – let’s be clear about that.

Martin Dubravka – fantastic debut for Newcastle – well done

Martin Dubravka made his debut in goal for Newcastle in that white-hot atmosphere and showed he is not only a top-class goalkeeper but cool and decisiveness under pressure.

He was magnificent all game long and if this lad plays like this for the rest of the season – that alone can save us from relegation.

Martin is top of our poll with 45% of the vote.

He will also be motivated to play well because he wants a permanent transfer to play for Newcastle United in the Premier League.

And he is closely followed in the voting by Jonjo Shelvey with 42% and Jonjo showed what a great player he can be when he’s in the mood.

And he controlled himself superbly during the game and he was here, there and everywhere during those final 15 minutes of the game; that’s when it was all hands to the pump for our players.

Jonjo Shelvey holds off Alexis Sanchez

This is one of the best ever games Jonjo has played for Newcastle in the two years he’s been at the club and we hope he can keep that passion and top form up for the next 11 games.

Mikel Merino will soon be 100% fit again and the Spanish U21 International will be challenging for Jonjo’s position in central midfield.

All our players deserved kudos after their performance yesterday and Dubravka and Shelvey were our best two players in the poll.

They were both simply magnificent.

And Shelvey is worth only £12M?

the banner / flag was actual layed out and painted within the ground
the staff actual watched it being done and thought nothing of it
it only upset Bishop and Charnley when they first seen it being unfurled and obviously Ashley when it flashed up on Sky

for clarity, are you suggesting you think Ashley DIDN’T know about the banner? Or the agreement?

    Jib,
Who’s NUFC, the Romanian, Ghanian, Pakistani stewards hired on match days by an agency, the staff is at a bare minimum. Do you know that when we dropped in to the Championship there was no one left to sack we are ran on such a shoestring budget.

    From The Evening Chronicle

After being missing from the squad entirely in yesterday’s 1-0 win over Man Utd, it has been revealed that Islam Slimani was ‘ very close’ to being involved but Benitez didn’t want to risk him – with the Chronicle confirming he’ll be available for the game at Bournemouth in 2 weeks .

    Now then Bobby..

Talksport are probably only grudgingly crediting us in order to needle Man U fans into calling in (from all over London) in their thousands to kick off 🙂

Do you honestly think that Lee Marshall or Wendy bloody Taylor check and approve those flags before they get unfurled???

    SITC

I think Ashley has totally lost interest in his erstwhile
    plaything.

I also think any reasoning behind defusing inflammatory
stuff , is more with an eye towards potential buyers , than
MA being worried about what folk think of him.

    Jib,

Now what makes me think that the banner was actually made IN SJP.

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?attr_tag=GpcVgp5laB5L_Cb0-6&v=-nGXpWHs6vE&feature=push-u

The banner created a stir in the media and Ashley could have been a tad pipped but we know he’s big enough to draw a point from it.

However, it was safety concerns that stopped flags at yesterday’s match. So, that’s alright then.

Would be cruel to pick out one player as Man of the Match. The whole lot of them were MAGNIFICENT. We haven’t got an Alexis Sanchez or David D’Haye but we did have guts & determination & shedloads of passion /energy. What we did have was an engine room or Shelvey & Diame & a goalkeeper making his debut aganst Man Utd who was brave & confident. We must continue to play like that & get in the faces of these so called world beaters. Really hope we haven’t bought a sick note in Slimani & he was being kept back for Bournemouth. Saying that whilst we were lightweight up front Gayle ran his socks off.
Stay up , Ashley sells & the good times return to SJP – hopefully. Well done RAFA

If he had any staff in the ground except minimum wage agency workers he might hsve stopped it. That day the Pardew rabble/mob/crew/ORGANISATION turned up he paid ex military security to pace about dying to chew people’s ears off.

Jib We all lost bleeding interest in Ashley years ago. When we stay up we just want him out of our hair & way out of our Club . He is a useless lump of lard supported by two stooges who couldn’t make a decent decision to save their lives. The win on Sunday was nothing at all to do with them

Still find it weird how complimentary Jose was both before and after the match. Not like him in the slightest, speaking with respect about the “home of Mr Robson” and how our lads played “like animals”, laying their lives on the line. Kinda creeped me out a bit. I wonder if he’s got his eye on a couple of our players and wants better relations with Rafa. Certainly Lascelles is an upgrade on Smalling on yesterday’s evidence. His dive was just plain embarrassing.

What brassed me off with Sky on Sunday was all they talked about was Alexis Sanchez & what a great addition he was for United . Well he was never allowed to settle on the ball & never really featured as he was closed down at every opportunity. And then we had the very biased Neville commentating throughout the game but even he admitted the Gayle incident should have been a penalty. Would have been interesting to see a similar incident at the other end. Would that have been a penalty?
What a powering header from Lejeune that lead to the goal

I’ve been wondering about the Mourinho comments, especially how complimentary he was towards manure and then subsequently got the manure job.

I wonder whether he’s thinking, “Once this lot get rid of the fat twat then I can see myself here”?

I wouldn’t have Mourinho in place of Rafa. Not sure if you listened to that podcast but when Caulkin said Rafa was the best thing to happen to us the place erupted. I don’t thin Mourhino would have the same effect.

There were plenty of heroes out there yesterday. Unsung ones like Perez, Gayle and Dummett and our midfield duo The Mojos were immense. Lejeune had his best game, Lascelles is Captain Fantastic. Dubravka was terrific – but like all keepers he may not be quite so brilliant every game and there will be the possibility of a mistake some time. I hope we remember how good he can be and cut him some slack: people on here can have awfully short memories and players can go from hero to zero (and back again) in the space off one game.

Unfortunately thats the way it is. Hull City hate the bloke for it but he wanted to call them tigers. Putting my head in a noose, guillotine and ball Cocks in an electric chair if we changed our name to Redbull Newcastle united if it meant winning three PL titles and numerous other trophies.

Dubravka reminding us what it’s like to have a premier league quality goalkeeper.
Yedlin kept Sanchez under wraps as best he could.
Lascelles with a typical full harted performance.
Lejeune with a goal saving block and a mammoth header leading to the goal.
Ritchie comes up trumps when it matters just like he did all last season.
Shelvey showed why he’s worth keeping around.
Diame is a man mountain and his passing is as good as Shelvey’s at times.
Gayle with two goal line blocks and an assist.
    Dummett and Kenedy were ok.

Perez is not up to scratch though he over-thinks things, Murphy would give us so much more if we played him behind the striker in my opnion.

Worth having another look at Lejeune’s leap to head the ball when we scored the goal. He’s clearly fit again no thanks to chopper Kane and I’m sure would have been a great influence in more games apart from that injury.
You can see the look of awe on the Manchester Town club players as he towered above them and the horror on De Geas face when he realised he was more exposed than a flasher on a cold night as Ritchie crashed the ball past him. The photo of Ritchie celebrating after the goal was front page on many Nationals.
    Epic.

Micky, funny the thought did cross my mind if Rafa moved upstairs he would need someone he trusted to run the first team but not sure Jose is that guy. He’s not a coach he has a massive ego and Rafa has spent too long cultivating his inner circle. I would think someone like Pocchetino is more likely but it’s a way off yet

While it’s true Mourhino’s comments were exceptionally generous to the NUFC, and there has to be a reason for that, his past relationship with SBR forms a complete explanation. Fantasies about Rafa upstairs and Mourhino managing belong with Elvis on the moon riding Shergar.
