We’re sure Rafa Benitez will attempt to get a good start to the summer transfer window this time around.
Lat summer was a disaster for Newcastle and for Rafa – and he’ll want to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen again – even if Mike Ashley is still the owner.
Newcastle have been linked with 27-year-old Cape Verde international Garry Rodrigues in the last couple of transfer windows, and Rafa could go after him again this summer.
Turkish Football are reporting that Galatasaray rejected a £6M bid from Newcastle last January and a second improved bid from Newcastle last month.
Garry Rodrigues – still a target this summer?
Rodrigues only moved to the Turkish club from PAOK last January (2017) for £3.3M so they will be making a decent profit on the player.
The latest report is that we bid £1M more last month – £7M – but clubs are now demanding a premium from Premier League clubs.
The 27-year-old winger has scored 4 goals and has 7 assists in 25 appearances for Galatasaray this season.
Rodrigues has played for five clubs in his career so far, and he could add some creativity on the wings which is one thing Rafa is looking for to improve the Newcastle side.
It’s not clear if Rodrigues will remain a firm target if Newcastle have any chance at all of signing Kenedy in the summer.
If we cannot get the Chelsea winger permanently maybe Rafa can arrange a season-long loan for the 22-year-old Brazilian, which is what he tried to do last summer.
