There were reports late last summer in Turkish Football that we were after Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues.
Newcastle were supposed to have bid £6M for him at that time, and then there was news again last month that we raised our bid to £7M, but it was turned down by the Turkish giants.
The Rotterdam-born winger has been playing excellent football since he signed for Galatasaray for €3.7m from Greek club PAOK just over a year ago.
This season he has scored 5 goals and has 7 assists in 26 total appearances for his club.
Rodrigues can play up front as a striker or on the left wing, and Rafa seems to rate him highly.
Garry Rodrigues– 27-year-old winger/striker
And according to Turkish publication Mynet, Newcastle need to double their offer to get the Galatasaray star who was asked if he would be moving to Newcastle this summer.
This is what he said:
“I will not go for less than €15M.”
€15M is £13.3M using today’s exchange rate.
He has been capped 21 times by Cape Verde (4 goals), and Fotomac have also reported on the player’s potential move today:
“Newcastle, the English Premier League team, wanted to sign Garry Rodrigues last month and offered £6M.”
“The black and whites will closely follow the performance of the star and at the end of the season will come back with a new proposal for the player, who is definitely looking to move.”
“It has been suggested that Newcastle will make an offer of £10M this time.”
If Rafa really rates the winger/striker then surely we can afford to buy him?
Maybe not – depending on how mean owner Mike Ashley decides to be this summer.
Comments welcome.

If the silver haired one is sacked it’ll be his shortest tenure ever as a manager, probably still come out of it wheeling a barrow full of dosh and be ready for the next mugs, sorry club to employ his services.

Get a few games in first Islam, score us some goals then resubmit your application for a longer stay.
As For Tammy didn’t he get a full England call up after his first few games at Swansea, hardly makes him a failure.

Comment #7There’s a pattern with these transfers, Rafa uses his scouting network and network of friendly coaches around the World to identify youngsters with talent he could potentially work with to improve and turn into the finished article. He figures out what will be a reasonable price for us to offer, which should be accepted with a quick-fire bid. Then he reports this to The Chubby One via Charmless. By the time our revered leader has dithered, procrastinated and thrown up in a few fireplaces, the agents have got wind of the deal, have mentioned the ‘real’ value of the player to the club who then take this as gospel and try to have our eyes as well as our balls on a platter. Can’t see Rafa, let alone Fat Ash, going in for this player at that valuation.

Comment #9Don’t see any point in speculating on transfers until we know what’s happening regarding the takeover> If the f@t tw@t stays, then I think Rafa will walk , who could blame him? 2+ yrs wasted based on false promises, just used as a doormat . If we do get new owners, with or without Rafa, I hope they will set their sights a bit higher.

I too have always wondered about the motive, leaving aside the allures of his pillion passenger, for Mr Corbyn taking a motorcycle holiday in Honecker’s East Germany.

Comment #12Jail, from wiki. Seems to be connected with Portugal as it was one of their colonies.
Cape Verde (/?ke?p ?v??rd/) or Cabo Verde (/?k??bo? ?v??rde?/, /?kæb-/) (Portuguese: Cabo Verde, pronounced [?ka?u ?ve?ð?]), officially the Republic of Cabo Verde,[9] is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. Located 570 kilometres (350 mi) west of the Cape Verde Peninsula in West Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi).

I don’t usually come on the blog but thought I would mention Corbyn’s neighbouring constituency Holborn and St Pancras. I now live in Lesbury but in the 1980’s I was a young volunteer in the Camden Labour Party office. One day we had a surprise visit from a Czech “diplomat”. He said he was interested in learning how our election process worked. He left a gift of a large cut crystal Czechoslovak vase. Once he had gone, we inspected it thoroughly for bugs and then immersed it in boiling water, just to be sure.

Comment #33Good to see Dummett get a new deal but I would love to see someone in to challenge him. He’s decent but we will need better if we’re to climb the table next season. Same goes for our RB position. Yedlin is pacey but often looks shaky when defending. And what on earth does Gamez do for us? Might as well be a tree ornament. Harrumph…..
