Slimani Could Still Be Doubtful For Game At Bournemouth

29-year-old Algerian International Islam Slimani has yet to make his debut for Newcastle, and we are hoping that will be on Saturday at Bournemouth and that our new loan signing will either start the game or come on as a substitute.

Slimani has missed out last two games – the 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace and the 1-0 defeat of Manchester United with what has been described as a slight thigh problem.

The Chronicle is reporting the 6ft 2ins striker has been putting in extra training sessions during the current two-week break to ensure he is fit to play on Saturday.

Islam Slimani – giving a press conference on February 9th

He did fly home to Algeria last weekend and was seen training over the weekend – so this player is really motivated to play on Saturday.

However, Slimani has been putting in extra hours on the training ground during Newcastle’s two-week break, brought about due to the Magpies’ early FA Cup exit.

Much like one of our other loan signings Dubravka, Slimani is keen on a permanent transfer to Newcastle this summer.

But he will need to show he is a better striker than what we already have.

Rafa had said this about the striker after the Manchester United win when Islam wasn’t in the squad:

“He’s fine, but still he was feeling it a little bit,”

“And it’s a question now of waiting because we have 15 days before the next game so we can keep working with him.”

It was actually 13 days from when we beat Man United a week last Sunday and our game at Bournemouth on Saturday.

It will be a disappointment if Slimani does not make the squad for Saturday, but we should find that out during Rafa’s press conference on Friday.

We really need another win at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Hopefully with the help of Slimani.

Comments welcome.

Well, the lad is training well and pushing for a start and I think he probably will start. The fact that he want’s to make his loan a permanent move will motivate him and hopefully he will produce some good displays and score a few season saving goals.

Let’s just hope he doesn’t have too much pressure put on him, that should allow him to play his natural game.

I must of missed the game against ‘Macnsheter United’, and also the signing of ‘Dubeavka’

In all seriousness, Slimani should get some game time against AFCB, will be a big 3 points for the Toon!

I caught this article recently: https://www.theguardian.com/news/2018/feb/16/algeria-sheep-fighting-illegal-sport-angry-young-men

Albania, where Slimani hails from. A great insight. ^_^

There is a distance of over 2000km between Algeria & Albania, Jib. If you don’t know what I mean, you will, soon.

I am really looking forward to seeing this lad make his debut. There has been so much hype about his ability and skill I just hope he turns out to be the centre forward we have tried so hard to find since Shearer left. Even 70% of Shearer will do as everyone since him seems to have been a flash in the pan.

    Munster,
You are probably right but it’s better than being negative before the lad has even played for us. That’s why I said even 70% would be good. LOL

On a totally different subject…Sunderland now up for sale…..I wonder if PCP will take a look there as well as us? It may be the key to unlock the door to M.A taking a lower offer?
It could also scupper our sale too if they go through with the deal……
As a toon supporter I’m worried about the way things could go…..anyone else feel the same???

Don’t think it’s a silly signing, only takes one game to be a hero and make a difference.. Look at dubrakva!
Hope he proves me correct in the upcoming games.
Big lover of him, followed since at sporting Lisbon, being a gambling man back then always put him to score first in my bets. Didn’t get the chance at Leicester, but he does at toon!
