La Provence recently reported that Newcastle are interested in signing 22-year-old Marseille midfielder Andre Zambo Anguissa.
The 22-year-old Cameroon International holding midfielder has been capped 11 times by his country and moved to Marseille in 2015 from Stade de Reims.
The 6ft tall defensive midfielder could be costly in the summer because there are a number of clubs interested in him.
But Rafa wants to further increase the competition in the center of midfield for Newcastle with Shelvey, Diame, Merino, and Hayden currently the ones fighting it out to start games.
Andre Zambo Anguissa – the complete midfielder
French football expert Nathan Staples of GFFN (Get French Football News – here’s his Twitter account) thinks Anguissa would be an excellent acquisition for Newcastle and believes him to be the complete midfielder.
Here’s what Nathan has said in an article in the Chronicle:
“Zambo Anguissa is a box-to-box style midfield that excels in breaking up play and starting attacks.”
“He’s quick in the challenge, able to apply a high press and get stuck in while also combining great close-ball control with a range of passing that allows him to be a kind of jack-of-all-trades that you need in the middle of the park.”
“With the caveat that Newcastle stay in the Premier League, I think he’ll finally add a complete midfielder that the Magpies are lacking.
“A lot of their current crop are one-dimensional or wildly inconsistent, whereas Zambo Anguissa is a step up from that and would be comfortable in a two or three-man midfield.”
“Marseilles absolutely don’t have to sell anymore and with rising fees combined with the fact he’s an important player to the squad, it’s probably going to be in the £25M – £30M range.
It will be a test for Mike Ashley to spend £25M on any player.
We’ll just have to wait and see if the owner is willing to pay out top money for a top player this summer.
If he isn’t, we could be in trouble again.
