Jamaal Lascelles has always been vocal on the pitch for Newcastle and has turned out to be an excellent captain for us.
His excellent form this season has seen interest in him come from Chelsea who are reported to be interested in signing him in the summer.
Martin Dubravka hs not played two games for Newcastle, and he certainly has looked the part and is a different kind of goalkeeper than Rob Elliot or Karl Darlow.
The on-loan goalkeeper has let everybody know he is very keen to sign permanently for Newcastle in the summer and he is vocal at the back and seems to be a commanding goalkeeper – the type Rafa wanted to bring in since last summer.
Being good with his feet he often plays the sweeper style at the back and gets out quickly to through balls.
Martin has said it has been easier for him because of the excellent communication and play of captain Jamaal Lascelles in front of him.
This is what Dubravka has said about playing with Lascelles as reported in the Chronicle:
“It’s much better for a goalkeeper if you know you have a quality defender in front of you.”
“But all of the defenders we have, they play amazing, especially the second half against Manchester United there were many duals in the box and they fought for it.”
“I try to help them but also they help me a lot, we all won that game because we are a team – that is the most important thing.”
Dubravka is a team player and seems like a much better communicator on the pitch than Rob Elliot or Karl Darlow.
That’s a part of Darlow’s game in particular that needs improving.
But Rafa and his recruitment team, under the leadership of Steve Nickson, seem to have unearthed a top goalkeeper in Dubravka.
And he will cost us only £3.5M if we take up the option to buy in the summer, but before that, there are still 10 vital games to play and we are not safe yet.
