Newcastle have three good players who have come in on loan for the club in January, but due to the injury to Islam Slimani, we have only seen two of them in action.
But the two players we have seen – 29-year-old Slovakian goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and 22-year-old Chelsea winger Kenedy have both looked the part, and they are an improvement on what we currently have at the club.
Newcastle have an option to buy Dubravka for €4M in the summer, and that’s very likely to be taken up by Rafa Benitez.
Kenedy – can Rafa buy him this summer?
Kenedy may be a little more difficult to sign permanently, and it’s very likely that Chelsea will be getting a new manager in during the summer to replace Antonio Conte.
So whoever the new manager is will want to take a look at Kenedy, but at the very least it looks like Rafa would like Kenedy on loan for next season if he cannot buy him outright this summer.
It’s a little bit more complicated with Islam Slimani since we haven’t seen him play for Newcastle yet, but an option in the summer could be to get him on loan for the season from Leicester City.
The alternative is to sign him permanently with the fee likely to be around £20M.
But we don’t think Rafa will want to do that until he’s seen him in action in a number of games – and that may not be possible this season because of his thigh injury.
What do you think?
