Rafa Needs A Win On His Two Year Anniversary At Newcastle

There will be a lot of Newcastle’s happy fans tomorrow night – make that ecstatic – if we can beat Southampton at St. James’ Park in front of another sell-out crowd tomorrow.

Unfortunately, it will be only our 8th win of the season after 30 games played and to think we had three wins after our first five league games played.

We need to get in that kind of form again and after losing the first two games – much like we did last season – we won the next three before losing 1-0 at Brighton.

But after another 24 games following that three-game winning streak, we have won only four games – one in every six games.

Who would have thought that back in September?

Rafa Benitez – arriving at St. James’ Park – March 11th, 2016

On Sunday it is Rafa’s two year anniversary of being appointed the Newcastle United manager and he is still contracted to the club until June 30th, 2019.

We don’t know how long he plans to stay at Newcastle, but he talks as though it could be a long time.

But then there’s owner Mike Ashley, and it’s not clear if Rafa will take much more miserly transfer windows from the current owner.

There could be a new owner in the summer, but we seriously doubt that will happen.

But Newcastle can still make it a happy second anniversary for Rafa with a win tomorrow.

A win is what we need – draws are no longer good enough.

Here’s where we stand in the league table at the moment.

13West Ham38-2042

And close to seven in ten Newcastle fans think we can win this game.

Ha, I remember that photo with Paco hanging round in the background. I thought he was there to carry Rafa’s bags at the time, had no idea he would be part of the coaching team. Can’t quite believe it’s been two years, tempus fugit!

You know Mitro nearly signed for
    the Girondins
I wonder if he would have been so
    prolific with Gus Poyet

Personally I think tomorrow is the biggest game of the season so far followed by Huddersfield which becomes bigger still.

I don’t think tomorrow should be undervalued. The points are all the same value but 3 against Southampton wud be wonderful. What chances Slimani will never play for us? We had better pray for Gayles hamstrings.

Tomorrows game and the next in three weeks are the two most important games this season, two wins and I feel we will stay up, two draws and its going to be a shit feast. The only saving grace is the teams below us also have to win games to stay up and they have some tough ones to play.
