Ecstatic Newcastle Fans Take To Twitter Following Brilliant Win In Crucial Game

Newcastle fans took to Twitter after the 3-0 win against Southampton that took us 3 points closer to safety and we have won our last two home games and kept a clean sheet both times.

We now need to beat Huddersfield Town at home in three weeks and we’ll be very close to being safe in the Premier League.

Our fans were naturally delighted as we seemed to cruise through this game and there were good performances all over the pitch this afternoon.

Matt Ritchie – after scoring Newcastle’s third goal

Here are some sample tweets from some very happy Newcastle fans after the game.

While I’m here to all the nuggets that are thinking Mitro scoring for Fulham is a bad thing and a mistake by wor gaffa give your heads a shake man.

Mitro can’t fit into the way we “have” to play this season. Rafa needs players that will listen to instruction to the letter and the tactics do not suit Mitros game. He wasn’t going to get many chances this half season to play. Now he’s scoring for fun he’s either going to come back with confidence to a team that’s hopefully had some decent investment (won’t hold me breath on that last part, mind) and maybe be able to fit in under different circumstances to that of this term. Or he gets sold for a healthy profit on what we paid for him, win win. My guess it’s gonna be the latter as I don’t believe Rafa can trust him, shame but no player is bigger than our club.

The lads and lasses thinking they know better than a world class champions league manager live on cloud cuckoo land. I’m not saying Rafa won’t/doesn’t make mistakes, just the loan move wasn’t one of them.

Good on Arma too, player of the month followed by another brace.

I can finally face watching MOTD on a Saturday!!

A great result for us and no doubt a great atmosphere at SJP – a far cry from West Ham’s situation.

There’s no doubt that the WHU owners are under pressure and assuming they stay up, they’ll throw whatever they can at Rafa to get him to move. Rafa’s a sort who needs to feel the love and that he has the total support of his employer. Our fans are with him but Ashley clearly isn’t.

Assuming we avoid the drop and the clubs not taken over, whether Rafa decides to stay or otherwise is very much in the hands of Ashley and that’s where the problem lies. If Rafa walks, Ashley’s got no excuses and nowhere to hide.

The sooner Ashley sees the light, sells up and buys some other club that needs to feel his magic touch, the better for all concerned. There must be needy clubs in North Korea!

Diame motm for me. Then Kenedy.

After scoring the first, we sat off and didn’t get close enough to them. They played some decent possession football, fortunately with no cutting edge. Gayle was profligate again. Second goal was a relief.

Lascelles is the best centre back at NUFC in my memory. Wins everything in the air; so important. Dubravka has brought an air of calm.

    Shelvey my motm.

Admission I was (am) no great fan of Ritchie but he’s in good form and same of Diame. Don’t know if it’s Rafa but those 2 have come on of late and I haven’t a bad word for either of them if they keep playing like today!

As for our team, you know all you need to know about the gap in quality between the top six and the rest when a single win and favourable results from other fixtures can see you rocket up the table jumping 3 to 4 teams and be solidly midtable just 5 points clear of relegation … Hope takeover happens we are going to need investment to compete anywhere near top 10!

Oh also worth a mention that my motm Shelvey and close runner up Kenedy are a castaway and a loanee of top clubs. Hope Ashley sells up we need to buy Kenedy (from Rafa’s interview it sounded like Kenedy may not stay with us after the loan… maybe we don’t have that option to buy him?) and invest, invest, invest… CP and WHU will be if they stay up and we should have the ambition to be a top 10 club year in year out.

As much as the Toon were good today Southampton were awful. Kamikaze defenders prone to the ball over the top and a team that just didn’t seem to be up for it. Let’s hope they play the rest of the season like that.
Thought there was some great performances today from our lot – Diame, Kenedy, our colossus captain, Shelvey and particularly Dummett (who I have to say is not one of my favourites). Add to that the graft of Ritchie, Perez and a mobile Gayle and we seem to have turned the corner. It’s also nice to have a commanding keeper who comes confidently and alertly for cross balls with a clean pair of hands and a decent and accurate kicking game.
It was great to see Rafa directing traffic from the sidelines right to the game’s end. If Ashley contrives to lose this bloke he should be hung up on Northumberland Street for eternity.

Don’t think Rafa will pick Hammers IF He leaves us. The Olympic track kills any atmosphere and the fans have as poisonous a relationship with management as we do… Why would he jump out of the fry pan and into the fire?

Just hope Ashley takes a profit and sells up after we hit safety… We hit 40 points early enough and a deal could e done in time for new owners to be active in summer market!

The 2 loanees playing today – Dubravka and Kenedy

Were the most instrumental in our victory

Dubkrava is virtually a given to sign for us. When we get to a safe points total, if I was Rafa I’d tell Kenedy to go out and play a stinker in any remaining games to make Chelsea not want him back.

Jib, Ashley got stick for not going for not bringing in the players of Rafa’s first second or even third choice and waiting until the end of the Window when Rafa was clear he provided his list well in advance and wanted players in early. Ashley gambled again with relegation and treated us and Rafa with contempt. He also brought in a broken striker when we need goals… Looking rosier now but what if we’d lost today hmm?

As for the impact of Kenedy and Dubravka imagine what Rafa’s top choices could have done if these were ones well down his list.

    Ashley has to go!

Shelvey and Kenedy were the most instrumental in our victory. Dubravka made one save and a bit of a howler of a throw out but was basically solid rather than spectacular.

And Ashley deserves no credit at all when our loan signings play well.

I wonder if Jonjo was feeling a bit of discomfort in his knees late in the game, the commentator seemed to think that he was looking towards the bench just before he was subbed and I thought he was feeling his knees at around the same time.
Still with 3 weeks respite he should be OK.

Great result and to cap it all – results went our way.

Started on the front foot great control and turn for the first goal should have had another couple before we got our second. southampton were poor
Kept going all game Diame and Kenedy were immense today.

    Merit marks
Dubravka – 8 – did not have much to do but what he did was excellent
AND about time – 20 years since we have had a keeper that commands the six yard box
Dummett – 8 – Another around excellent display and got i some crunching OLD fashioned tackles. 3 for his swallow dive second half when he got a nudge
Lascalles – 7 – One of his easiest days in a TOON shirt strolled through the game
LeJuene – 8 – Class act great on the ball cool under pressure today except when Dubravka missed threw the ball out
Yedlin – 7 – Another who had one of his easiest games in a TOON shirt in defence and attack
Diame – 8.5 – My MOTM just shaded it from Kenedy set the tone with timely tackles and seemed to sniff out danger all game and closed down their midfield all game ran himself into the ground
Kenedy – 8.5 – great piece of skill for first goal tap-in second seemed to play a lot more forward today on the shoulder of Gayle. ran out of steam and good substitution by RAFA
Shelvey – 8 – Another polished performance great ball for first goal even if Kenedy had a lot to do. Tende to try and do the Hollywood ball too often
Ritchie – 7 – Started slowly but grew into the game and scored an absolute pearler calmly side-footed a curler from outside the box
Perez – 6.5 – Did OK kept a cool head when passing to Gayle for the second goal. Ran around a lot as if he was the midfield player instead of Kenedy but all to easily gets knocked off the ball
Gayle – 6.5 – Another who played OK kept his cool for Kenedy’s second goal with his pass – but should of had two before we got our second.

    Merino – 5 – OK slotted into Shelvey’s role
Atsu – 4 – Out of sorts at the moment
Joselu 5 – did ok when he came on in holding the ball up

Must praise the Ref for letting the game go for our first goal
