Newcastle Linked With £20M Unlikely Lad This Summer

With Newcastle’s last two last home displays resulting in two wins and all 6 points – that suggests we can avoid relegation.

So there is more news on the players Rafa may be going after in this summer’s shortened transfer window.

Newcastle were as good on Saturday as were against Manchester United, and in the first 70 minutes of the game at Bournemouth, so the lads are starting to be more consistent.

There is a report in the Sun today that Newcastle want to sign 27-year-old Burnley winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson in the summer.

The 63 times capped left-footed Iceland International (7 goals) plays on the wing – yet another winger Newcastle are being linked with.

The Reykjavík-born Gudmundsson joined Burnley in the summer two years ago after having played a couple of seasons at Charlton Athletic.

He has played 56 times with 3 goals for Burnley.

The report is that we are in a battle with Leicester City and Southampton for the player who is rated at a high £20M.

Gudmundsson’s contract at Burnley will have a year to run this summer and with the Turf Moor club doing so well this season it’s not surprising clubs will be looking at their players.

But that’s a lot of money to pay for Johann Berg Gudmundsson, and there must be better players available for £20M.

We’d be surprised if the Icelandic player arrives at St. James’ Park this summer.

What do you think?

Burnley only get points from a mixture of luck and the fact they’re hard to score against having ten men behind the ball. I’ve had the misfortune of watching quite a few of their games this season and they didn’t deserve any of the points they got. West Ham for example should have got 6 points from them, but somehow only got 1. Individually most their players are average and best avoided. Tarkowski alone won’t get you a good defence, but he will if he’s got 10 other negative players by his side. If I was Burnley I’d sell everyone while their value is high and before they go back to being rubbish. That said, they’re stock is high now so why would they want to sell this guy if he was any good?
