There was news in Turkey earlier this year that Newcastle had bid twice for 27-year-old Cape Verde international Garry Rodrigues.
Garry plays for Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig and can play on either wing or up front as a striker.
Newcastle scouts have regularly been watching the Galatasaray games this season.
Newcastle were said to have offered £6M last summer for the player and then £7M in January.
There were also reports last month that Newcastle will go back in with an offer of at least £10M this summer and we wondered in late February if maybe a deal had already been made by Newcastle to buy him this summer.
The player himself is keen to join Newcastle, and he even has suggested what the fee will be.
This is what Rodrigues said in Turkish publication Mynet last month:
“I will not go for less than €15M.”
€15M is £13.3M using today’s exchange rate.
Now there is news from Milliyet who report Newcastle could go as high as €15M to get the player this summer.
It’s interesting that’s the price the player said he will go for – at a minimum.
Rodrigues’ agent is Ceylan Caliskan, and he is quoted in Milliyet talking about the player’s future – this is what he said:
“We have made a joint decision with Garry.”
“We will definitely not start evaluating transfer offers at this stage.”
“Garry’s head is not supposed to be interfered with, Galatasaray have a goal and he is focused on it,”
Rodrigues is having a very good season, and in 31 appearances he’s scored 7 goals and has 9 assists.
Since he signed on 14 months ago from PAOK, he’s played 58 times with 13 goals and 14 assists for Galatasaray.
