Rafa’s Relief – One Game Down – One To Go

Rafa Benitez and Newcastle fans were thankful that Islam Slimani did not play for Algeria against Tanzania with Algeria easily winning 4-1.

Even though Slimani has not played for Newcastle since signing on loan back on January 31st from Leicester City, he is still in the Algerian squad and joined up with them earlier this week.

Algeria have another friendly on Tuesday against Iran in Austria so it is possible he could play in that game – but we doubt that will happen.

We are hoping that Slimani will be fit for our crucial six-pointer against Huddersfield a week on Saturday.

Islam Slimani – didn’t play against Tanzania

And our new on-loan goalkeeper Martin Dubravka picked up another cap for Slovakia in their 2-1 win over the United Arab Emirates in Thailand.

Rafa will be looking at each game a Newcastle player is involved in over the next several days and hoping we don’t pick up any injuries in these friendly games, which are warm-ups for the World Cup in Russia this summer.

If we can beat Huddersfield at home on March 31st, we will be in an excellent position on 35 points from 31 games, and that’s 10 points better off than we were two years ago.

Newcastle would need only 5 points from our last 7 games to be absolutely safe on 40 points.

What do you think?

I have a feeling this guy will only see action as a sub, if at all. If so a serious waste of money by the club. I’m not sure that Jorgensen is what we need either. He won’t worry prem defenders like he does Dutch ones.

Munster Mag: Jorgensen i don,t rate, he,s a good player in the Dutch League and living over here he is definitely not worth the 20 Mil Euro,s that Feyenoord want for him ! As for Slimani, he and also Benitez are the result of Ashley just not backing his club or the manager ! Hopefully Ashley will be gone by the summer and someone will come in and start to run the Club like it should be run? Hope we Do not sign Jorgensen!

Newexpat rafa may not be the transfer operator around. Strikers wise anyway. Hope he is right on slimani but think he will need a very good 10 that would work well with him. Either way jorgie looks heavily overpriced. Rafa wanted Tammy Abrahams and made a lot of noise about not getting him but he hasn’t pulled up any trees this season at Swansea on the face of it.

    Munster –

True on Abrahams but that doesn’t mean that under
Rafa’s coaching, it would have been the same story.

There are much better strikers out there than Jorgensen , and we may of dodged a bullet with Abrahams, one player don,t make a team and Swansea had problems earlier in the Season !
