The news on Martin Dubravka before he joined Newcastle on the final day of the January transfer window on loan was that he could adapt quickly at clubs and settle in quickly.
And that’s exactly what he has done since joining Newcastle.
He was on the bench for the 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace in early February but has been the starting goalkeeper since then.
And we have two clean sheets, two wins and a draw since he started playing for us – a good return of 7 points from 4 games.
Martin Dubravka – wants to sign but …
Martin is away on duty with Slovakia, and he was asked by the Slovakian press if he will make the loan move to Newcastle permanent in the summer.
But he said that would only be possible if Newcastle retain their Premier League status, so it’s still not clear what his future will be.
Here’s what Dubravka said to the Slovakian press corps
“Everything depends mainly on how the team finishes in the top-flight or whether we stay in it,”
“In my opinion, it will also affect my future in the club.”
“I will continue to focus on getting as many points as possible, and thus avoiding relegation.”
“I think Newcastle will be in the Premier League, and then a permanent transfer will be possible.”
“But as I said, I’m focusing exclusively on my performance at the moment.”
“My girlfriend and I need to find some solid housing and get a car, so we don’t have to go everywhere in a taxi.”
“We like the city though, we’ve found a few places we love to visit.”
“It’s a beautiful time, joining the Premier League was a huge step forward for me.”
“Now, I’m doing everything to stay there so I can help the club with my approach and performance.
“For this chance, I’m very grateful, and I will see what the situation will be in the summer – whether I stay here, and whether after the loan there will be a transfer.”
Next up for Newcastle is a crucial game next Saturday at home to Huddersfield and that’s another game we must win.
