Massadio Haidara arrived at Newcastle with other French players in the January 2013 transfer window.
That’s when Newcastle were playing in the Europa League that season, but we had dropped to 3rd bottom of the Premier League after being beaten at home by Reading.
Owner Mike Ashley stepped in for a change and brought five new players into the squad – four of them in one week after the Reading defeat.
One was Massadio Haidara a French U21 International who signed for us from Nancy.
But Sadio has never been able to nail down a starting position at Newcastle even when left-back has been a problem position for Newcastle, although local lad Paul Dummett is now playing very well in that position.
Massadio Haidara – averages 7 appearances a season for Magpies
Sadio has played only 48 times for Newcastle in almost six and a half years which has also been filled with injuries for the 25-year-old; that’s about 7 appearances a season on average.
His contract will run out at the end of June, and it will not be renewed.
The Frenchman along with full-back Jesus Gamez will leave Newcastle when both their contracts run out in the summer.
Gamez has been another player on Tyneside with little playing time, having only played 10 times for the Newcastle first team over almost two years.
Again Gamez has been injured a lot, and that has also kept him out of the side.
The two full-backs will leave the club in the summer, and we expect Rafa to bring in a top full-back to challenge Dummett and/or Yedlin for a first-team place next season.
We won’t miss either full-back because they have only played a cumulative 5 first-team games between them this season.
