England Central Defender Could Be Available This Summer – Will Rafa Add Experience To Back Four?

The Mirror are reporting today that Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is likely to be up for sale this summer.

They report that Jose Mourinho is interested in bringing in another center-back to the Red Devils this summer and if that is the case, Smalling could be sold.

And since Chris will have only one year to run on his contract, then he could be available for a decent fee.

Everton are already said to be interested in signing Smalling, and we wonder if Rafa would want to bring the experienced Premier League defender to Newcastle.

Chris Smalling – could be a good buy for Newcastle

At the moment we have Lascelles, Lejeune, Clark, and Mbemba fighting it out for the two center-back positions.

But Chancel Mbemba is almost certain to be sold this summer for his own good – so he can start playing first team football again.

He’s too good to be sitting on the bench at Newcastle.

It would seem that Smalling could be a good signing for Newcastle and certainly will add some real experience to the back four.

Smalling joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2010 from Fulham and has since played 280 times for the club with 15 goals.

If the fee is decent, then he could be just what Rafa is looking for this summer.

Smalling has played 31 times for England with one goal.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Can’t see that happening unless it was a swap deal for Jamall or if he was sold.

I would rather keep Clark ans Mbemba in reserve than sign Smalling. His wage would be astronomical to come here.

I think prem experience is an overrated ideal. I’d rather go abroad and get quality plus value for money. Not too many Mikel merino’s floating around the uk

    Dummet for England ?
Southgate is looking to play a back three.
Wide right of the three you have Walker.
Wide left of the three Dummet ?
Dummet is quicker than folks give him credit for.
That would be pace either side of a central defender and one holding midfielder.

Instead of two holding mids in a 4/2/3/1 who get rendered useless by a team that sit deep.
    Who knows.

No thanks, I think he is overrated. He’s doing well to be on that kind of money I reckon, and he will be doing even better if he gets it again in his next contract!

Very much doubt that we’ll see Dummett getting picked in the near future but it would be a little ironic to see him getting in the England team ahead of Lascelles and Shelvy.

Whoever agreed to sign slimani should be sacked. He’s back after such a long lay off and will need time to get back to full fitness even if he plays. He has about last 7 games which he MAY play but that too 2 of the games I don’t think he can oldy the 90mins.

So he only has like 3 or 4 games max for us at full fitness. But by that time, we may have already secured survival.

Slimani is going down, facundo ferreira and seydou Doumbia route. Lol!

Dummet was allowed to play for Wales
because of a Welsh grand – parent.

He is English born so can play for England.

    However

His 2 caps for Wales were in FIFA games
so he would have to get special permission.
Whether Southgate is that keen on him , to go
to that bother , is debatable.

If we assume slimani is goosed, what blame should be apportioned on rafa for hiring a dud? Hopefully it won’t come to that and he plays against arsenal and skittles them.

According to the Chronic a few days ago, Rafa’s summer buying plans went awry because he didn’t fully appreciate that any transfer budget he’d agreed with Ashley was to include not only any fees but the targets’ wages. Silly Rafa, so naive!

So, looking at Smalling for example, a fee of £20m plus wages of £80k pw over say five years takes the outlay to £40m over five years or £24m for the first year.

I’m not certain whether Ashley insists on budgeting for the first year or the duration of contracts but whichever way operated in the past and will doubtless continue.

It must be a nightmare dealing with Ashley when one doesn’t know what he’s going to clarify next!

Every time I see Smalling in a game he looks on the verge of giving away a penalty. I know that holding and blocking within the box is common practice but Smalling takes it to the next level. At any other club he’d give away a good amount of penalties. He is to Manure’s defense what Fellaini is to their midfield. In fact, I think he might even be Fellaini except he puts a fat wig on when he’s playing the Fellaini role.
Please no for England. Please no no for us – I’d rather have any of our existing back four. Assuming Mbemba goes, let’s get a good prospect as a replacement and not someone who’s on the downward curve.

If you took the time to think before you fire off unfounded claptrap, you might have considered my words ‘According to the Chronic…’ . Yes, it was me attributing the point to the Chronic and attributions are not confirmation of belief. Geddit?

I hope your aim was better when you were in the errr, SAS!

You can apportion as much blame as you like on the manager, you can then add Slimani to the other few duds he has signed that you harp on endlessly about.

So for the summer assuming Ashley stays, we should hope for a decent kitty that excludes wages and more Merinos and lejeunes than lazaars, sels, hanleys( we seemed to chase him for half the summer) , 20 mill Jorgensen, gamez’s and Agadoos . That seems fair.

We’d often find fishermen’s wife’s selling crabs and winkles at their front doors, don’t suppose that happens now.
