There’s news in African Foootball.com that Islam Slimani’s injury is ‘not serious’ according to Algeria’s assistant coach Djamel Menad.
But it was also not serious when he signed for us in the final hours of the January transfer window almost two months ago.
Slimani did not play for Algeria in the 4-1 win against Tanzania and is now unlikely to play in the upcoming friendly against Iran on Tuesday.
He is yet to make his debut for Newcastle, and that’s unlikely to happen next Saturday when we are at home to Huddersfield in a crucial relegation 6 pointer.
Islam Slimani – training in southern Spain – injury is not serious
This is what the assistant coach Djamel Menad has said:
“Brahimi and Slimani ? – I do not think they will be attacking but we’ll see by Tuesday,”
“Brahimi’s injury is not serious, but it requires rest. Same thing for Slimani but we will see what will happen.”
“For changes, I do not know, we will see with the staff during training.”
So Slimani went out slightly injured to join the Algeria squad last Monday, and there seems to be little change in his condition.
He’s been out an awfully long time with the thigh injury.
Since Islam is unlikely to feature for Newcastle next Saturday against the Terriers, the earliest he can make his debut for us is on Sunday 15th April at home to Arsenal.
We do have Leicester City before that, but he cannot play in that game.
