West Ham Preparing Attractive Bid To Lure Lascelles This Summer

There’s news in the Sun today that West Ham want to sign Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles this summer.

The 24-year-old has been in excellent form for Newcastle ever since Rafa Benitez joined the club as manager just over two years ago.

There seems to be a special relationship between the two and Jamaal is Newcastle’s undoubted leader on and off the pitch.

Rafa was impressed so much with Jamaal that in the summer of 2016 he made him the Newcastle captain even though he was only 22 at the time.

Jamaal Lascelles – no way Rafa will sell this player

The way the Hammers are said to be able to attract Jamaal to London is to offer him an excellent financial package.

The report says the new deal Jamaal recently signed at Newcastle to keep him at the club through 2023, has the defender on £40K/week and he will get more than that at West Ham.

West Ham think they can attract Lascelles and will offer £15M as a transfer fee for the young defender.

But that’s way below what Rafa would want for his captain – even if he was willing to sell Jamaal – which he won’t be.

Newcastle is no longer a selling club (hopefully), and Rafa wants to build a team that can challenge for the top six in England and also get back into European competition.

Maybe the most important player at Newcastle for the future is Jamaal and Rafa will not want to let the born-leader leave the Magpies.

West Ham also are in a little trouble at the moment and are fighting relegation along with Newcastle and nine other clubs.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

I don’t know why they bother putting writing on the toilet paper known as the Sun.

Lascelles loves playing for Newcastle, he’ll keep improving under Rafa and I’d be very suprised if he isn’t an England regular in a few years. £15m is also laughable, in today’s market you’d surely be looking anywhere between £25m-£40m

It seems that none of our players picked up injuries in the friendly internationals (assuming Dubravka’s knee injury – as reported by Jib – is not too bad). However, some of them still have another match to play and some will have a lengthy journey home with little time to prepare for the Huddersfield match.

NUFC 1st. team players who are in line to play internationals on Tuesday are
    – Matt Richie v. Hungary in Budapest;
    – Islam Slimani v. Iran in Graz, Austria (he did not play v. Tanzania on Thursday);
    – Mikel Merino v. Estonia in Ponferrada, Spain; and
    – De Andre Yedlin v. Paraguay in Cary, North Carolina (this is USA’s only game).

    Playing on Monday is
Chancel Mbemba v. Tanzania in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania (this is DR Congo’s only game).

    Playing today is
Martin Dubravka v. Thailand/Gabon in Bangkok.

Ireland do not play again this week, so Ciaran Clark should be back from Antalya, Turkey where he came on as a 69th minute sub yesterday.

It is crucial that they all come back unscathed and recover quickly enough to train before Saturday’s match so that they are physically and mentally prepared.

International friendlies are a pain in the…

West Ham are delusional if this is a true story. Lacselles is going nowhere other than possibly to a top 5 club. West Ham hopefully will be relegated – their fans clearly have expectation way beyond the club’s capability.

Cary is only about 9 miles from Raleigh
I wonder if Ed will go in his toon top and
    shake DeAndre’s hand.
Yedlin will faint if he hears a Walker accent in
    North Carolina.

This is a non story, Lascelles loves it up here and Rafa would never sell him especially for only £15m. Ashley however………………….

    Naff off springs to mind.
First they’re touting for Rafa now it’s Lascslles.
Except they’re not – this is hack fantasy .
West Ham are a failed football club and no more now than a dodgy tourist attraction for Lundun tourists. Can’t help thinking they should be relegated and Leyyon Orient allowed to play at the athletics track.

Seems I upset JIB with my comment about the rugby.
I said there was not a lot of interest.
I did mean on this football blog.
But, lets look at this. They hold a one off novelty event at St James Park and get 30,000 in.
    Good luck to them.
How many do they normally get. 6000 ?
Still 22000 empty seats for our stadium.

You’re clearly becoming tired of Jib’s tales of celebrity but you really should give credit where it’s due. Has he mentioned that the Pope’ll be paying him a quick visit after his visit to Eire? No he hasn’t and if that’s not indicative of Jib’s modesty, I don’t know what is.

I think though , if Cashley is selling, drop the price by 50 m in the summer, sell Merino, lascelles and Shelvey for 70m and he will do it, other teams will pay more than they are on at the toon, this usually seals the deal….stay here or go and double your wages and get a chance to play for your full national side Byblos’s being at a top 6 club……..one things for certain though….that club ain’t West Sham

West Ham are a more ambitious club. They will pay him far more than us. They will come for Rafa if he leaves in the summer. These are some of the reasons that could make this a reality. Lascelles is a class player. I hope we don’t lose him.

They want Rafa, Shelvey and now Lascelles. London may be attractive to players, but £15m for either Shelvey or Lascelles won’t be attractive to Rafa, that much is certain.
Murphy cost us that much ffs, and he’s nothing like the players they are. Two potential England players, ready to walk into their first team and they think they’ll get either for £15m? Does that not just smack of arrogance to you?
Gold & Co are probably members of the same ‘Tight Arse Club’ as Ashley, so beware dodgy handshakes and rolled up trouser legs. 🙂
West Ham has become a soulless club under these clowns and it would serve them right if they got dragged down with West Brom. Looking forward to their game against Southampton. If they lose that they’ll be looking for a new stadium again, because their fans will tear that athletics stadium down. 🙂 Maybe a points deduction is on the cards? Wishful thinking but probably deserved.

Anyway my prediction for Saturday is Newcastle 3 Huddersfield 0 I say this because I always have a small bet on Newcastle games correct score and the only times I have won this season have been the home games against West Ham and Southampton both 3-0 if you see my logic.

If Ashley is still the owner next season then Lascelles will be gone and he will not have a choice, but he won’t be going to west Ham, he will be going to a top 5 club,I think Shelvey will go too. This is the reason I think Rafa will leave. I can see it now ” There are funds available BUT we have to balance the books” £80Mill in £40Mill out, sounds all too familiar.

If we can perform on Saturday like we have in our last two home games, there’s a chance we could drag Huddersfield right into nasty stuff.
Southampton got lucky only to lose 3-0 imo and they’re no better or worse than Huddersfield.
I’d love to see Slimani start but not holding my breath. Makes you wonder how much further up the table we’d be with a genuine PL striker up front, but we should still have enough to beat them.
Looks like I might finally get my wish to see Ritchie at No10 at long last. Fill your boots Matt.

Tommotoon, not bothered who goes down mate, as long as it ain’t us. If we win on Saturday I think we’re safe. Not points wise, but we’ll pick up what we need in remaining games. Bearing in mind West Brom and Pardew are still to come here. Got to commend him, he’s finally doing his best to keep us up! 🙂
