Newcastle Winger Matt Ritchie Injured – Withdraws From Scottish Squad

Some bad news today that Newcastle winger Matt Ritchie has pulled out of the Scotland squad to face Hungary in Budapest due to injury.

Scott McTominay and former Newcastle center-back Grant Hanley have also pulled out of the squad through injury.

All three players played in the disappointing 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica at Hampden Park on Friday night.

That was Alex McLeish’s first match as manager since returning to the job of Scotland coach.

Matt Ritchie – withdraws from Scottish squad

All three players will not travel to Budapest but exactly what is wrong with Ritchie we don’t know.

It could only be a precautionary move by the player to ensure he’s available on Saturday for our crucial game at home to Huddersfield.

But if Matt is out injured for that game – who takes the penalties?

Let’s hope it’s only minor but there’s no news on the extent of the injury being reported in the local papers.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Update – Chronicle is speculating it may be a groin injury.

I see We are being linked with Central defenders, does that mean someone is on his way out. Who could it be? I could understand ManU wanting Lascelles, maybe include a swap with Smalling, would NOT fancy him. I could see Arsenal showing a big interest in Lascelles, after all, Lascelles could do better on crutches than Muasaffa in their back 4 and if Koulibaly has more than a £8Mill price tag then we can forget it . Profit over ambition, same old story.

Richie is making sure he’s ok for Uddersfield. He has little connection with the scots.
