Rafa will try to significantly strengthen the Newcastle side this summer by bringing in maybe four or five top players who will add creativity, skill, and class to the side.
Of course, he will need to prioritize the signings, and it looks like his top priority will be to get a good number 10 to the club.
It’s going to be an interesting summer if only that Rafa will have one year to run on his three-year contract and owner Mike Ashley wants him to sign a long-term deal to stay at the club.
We’ll have to see how that turns out but Ashley helping Rafa this summer with transfers should be essential if the owner wants to keep the Spaniard on Tyneside.
Rafa Benitez – praying for transfer funds from Ashley?
We will need to be in the Premier League next season too, but it’s in the transfers where Ashley has let Rafa down over the last three windows so that must change.
We would have expected Rafa would want to sign two new strikers and both Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic will be sold this summer.
Mitro is in good form at the moment and scored two goals for Serbia last night in their 2-0 win over Nigeria.
So since he left Newcastle on loan to Fulham on January 31st, he’s scored a lot of goals – 9 goals to be exact.
Rafa’s priorities are obviously players who can put the ball in the back of the net (like Mitro?), and that will include a striker and a number 10 at the very least.
The Chronicle is reporting that Red Bull Salzburg’s 25-year-old Valon Berisha is a player Newcastle have scouted for over 18 months – so he could be a target.
Our weakest link over the last two seasons has been that we have been unable to score enough goals from the many chances we create.
The defense is quite strong, especially if we keep goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and maybe Rafa can also get a top class full back into the club.
But goalscorers are what Rafa needs this summer to make Newcastle into a much stronger side next season in the Premier League.
What do you think?
