Newcastle Interested In Signing Striker Who Turned Down Chelsea

Newcastle will be linked with lots of different players now and through the summer and we need to work out who we are really after, but that is sometimes difficult.

Since it’s obvious we need players who can score goals we are likely to be linked with several forwards and strikers in particular.

The latest player we are linked with is Mainz’ striker Yoshinori Muto who has played 19 times for Japan with 2 goals.

The report is in Kicker and Muto is not a prolific goalscorer, but he is a mobile striker.

Mainz striker Yoshinori Muto – turned down Chelsea in May, 2015

He moved to Mainz from FC Tokyo back in the summer of 2015, and since then he has played 68 times with 22 goals and 9 assists.

This season he has scored 9 goals and one assist in 26 games.

The Kicker report is that he wants to move to England in the summer and at that time he will have one year left on his four years contract at Mainz.

That may help to keep the price down?

This is the piece in Kicker that has linked him with Newcastle:

“Yoshinori Muto plans to change to England in the Premier League this summer. There have also been a few requests – and Newcastle United watched the 25-year-old.”

Muto made his debut for Japan in September 2014 in a 0–2 friendly defeat to Uruguay at the Sapporo Dome.

He was linked with both Chelsea and Manchester United a few years ago in the summer of 2015 before he signed for Mainz and both of the top Premier League clubs were interested in signing the Japanese striker.

Chelsea agreed a fee with FC Tokyo at that time for the player, but he turned down the Premier League Champions because of concerns over a lack of playing time,

Newcastle’s Recruitment manager Steve Nickson and his team are watching lots of different players ready for what we hope is an excellent summer transfer window.

We’ll have to wait and see if it includes bringing in the 25-year-old talented right-footed Japanese striker who stands 5ft 10ins tall.

I suspect if Manyoo or Chelsea were trying to sign him, then it has more to do with Shirt Sales in the Far East than any interest in the player. His concerns at Chelsea over playing time would also seem to indicate this was his thought also. Looks a tidy little player mind. Quite fast with a low centre of gravity, makes him difficult to play against.

Pictures of Steve Smith blubbing at
    Sidney Airport will probably save
    him a few thousand dollars.

On topic, this Muto doesn’t have the worst record I’ve ever heard.
Might suit the needs of the Rafa system.
Agreed though I am always dubious that the mega rich clubs only look at players from the Orient as a marketing ploy and not necessarily as a viable addition to the squad!!

    Surely better than Joselu anyway….

Personally I think the public humiliation of Smith has gone completely ott. Not a fan of his tbh but we should keep some perspective here. I’d there any difference between what they’ve done and players diving to win a penalty? It’s all cheating and needs stopping but a year ban is ridiculous. That’s his full time job ffs.
Not condoning what he’s done in any way shape or form but I think the hysteria has gotten completely out of control.
Let’s be honest, beating Australia without Smith in the team would be a hollow victory anyway.

I’m presuming you pay money to access the Torygraph? You must be a desperate sod and we can only hope you washed your hands before posting the link to the Lascelles/ Rafa story which is in the Chronic at no charge.

And whilst, according to Ed, the lad’s not a prolific striker, one in there’s a bit better than what Rafa’s got to pick from at the moment.
