It’s good news that Islam Slimani is now in full training with the Newcastle first team after he played 25 minutes for Algeria against Iran on Tuesday night.
It seems that he’s listened closely to Rafa Benitez while he’s been out injured and he’s giving everything in training with Rafa watching closely.
Seems that Rafa is pleased with what he has seen from the Algerian so far with Islam working hard and always wanting the ball.
And we could see Slimani make his debut this afternoon against the Terriers – but it would be a surprise if he starts the game.
Islam Slimani – working hard in training
Here’s what Rafa has said about Slimani as reported in the Chronicle today:
“Islam is very competitive and very keen to impress.”
“He really wants to impress and he’s been working very hard in the training sessions.”
“He is always asking for the ball and trying to run and make things happen.”
“He has been involved in all of the games in training.”
“It’s a different option to what we have but that has to be a positive in the end.”
“In terms of injuries I was happy to see Ritchie passing his test.”
“We lost Joselu but at the same time Slimani is now fit.”
“He had a problem which the medical staff and his national team were trying to control it and he’s proved to be OK.”
“He played 30 minutes and he showed his hunger and desire.”
“So it’s a very good option for us and more competition for the strikers.”
It would be great if Slimani gets playing time and looks good as we get all 3 points this afternoon.
Anything else than a win today against Huddersfield Town will be a big disappointment.
