Shearer Reacts To Newcastle’s Massive Win

After Newcastle missed some chances early in the game it was a vital goal from Perez after 80 minutes that gave Newcastle the win we all wanted against Huddersfield this afternoon at St. James’ Park.

That’s now 10 points from our last 5 games and the lads are coming into form at the right time.

Newcastle born and bred Alan Shearer was happy with the result and we deserved the win.

Slimani certainly livened up the action for us, his short cameo showed what we have been missing up front.

A timely foot in the face of several teams on the relegation ladder. one more win might just do it.

I think the job is already done Bill.
Southampton will need 8 points in their last 7 games to get ahead of us. And that’s if we lose all 7 of our games.
Their games: Arsenal (a), Chelsea (h), Leicester (a), Bournemouth (h), Everton (a), Man City (h)
They haven’t got a hope in hell.
Realistically they’ll have to win between 4-5 games if they want to catch us.

Well done Rafa and the lads. Huge result which should mean we ‘re nearly safe. Got to agree with the comments on Perez. Credit to him for being in the right place to tap it in for the goal , but he was very poor yet again other than than that. He got into so many promising positions but continually got dispossessed. He just can’t compete against PL players, they’re too big and strong for him.

Excellent performance today, most everybody put in a good shift – it’s a different squad since January now that we’re seeing a full 90 of good play rather than the first 15.

Things got dicey in the last few minutes and they had a few chances to score, definitely something we need to work on as eventually teams will score, but overall a vital 3 points.

MOTM is Shelvey for me, every time he touched the ball he was looking up and I got excited just seeing him on the ball – really opened up the game for us

Think we might be safe but a win against West Brom from our remaining games will have me breathing easy. Can’t see the bottom three getting to 38 points.

On way home – not the best game of football but the result is all that counts. Slimani’s presence made a difference!

We have shown great resolve considering the plight we were in around Christmas time. A lot of the pressure has bee lifted off the team, we don;t need to rely on other results, if we keep this up we can finish on 46 pts maybe more.

Allan666 I was searching for a good link all first half . Try :https://www.streamagratis.com. next game. It’s Scandinavian commentary but picture was good all second half. Slimani was OK . He gives us far more strength up top & went up for the ball with their goalie when we scored. Shelvey & Diame were immense again today!

Think Perez gets a rough time in all honesty. He’s being asked to play attacking mid position/support striker role. This is him out of position. He is a natural striker. Yes he had a bad game today what do you expect. Diame looked a poor player in the same position, put him in his natural cm position and he looks good. Play Perez up front he looks good like v Stoke this season, like v Brighton at home last year, like his first season with us under long ball Pardew tactics.

Toondog………We’re not really spoilt for choice but we defo need an upgrade in the summer. I’ve been saying it for a few seasons and he’s had plenty of opportunities to establish himself now. He’s just far too unreliable and inconsistent .

Slimani was offside in the buildup for our goal.

Just as well he didn’t ‘interfere’ with play, or to
put it another way, lucky that the ref. didn’t see
Slimani’s challenge on their keeper as ‘interfering’.

Toonincheek. I don’t think Slimani was offside when the ball went in as he was over the goal line & don’t think he fouled the goalie going up for the header leading to the goal.

    Rolando,

Betty has said it Ayoze not a no 10 so we defo need an upgrade in the summer for that position.

Diame in his correct position shows his true benefit so always imperative to have the right players in their right positions

The summer signings will be very interesting to see how Rafa develops his team to compete in the top 8

Man City 2-0 up. Win this and they can claim the title by beating Man U. Should be some atmosphere for that game I reckon.

TNMW – If Stoke lose to arsenal then yes we sit 7 points clear with 7 games to go. However I’m counting no chickens until we reach 40 points. The top teams can easily take there foot off the gas and potentially have other interests. Also there’s the teams that have nothing to play for where players have one foot on their holidays or protecting themselves for the world cup.

It does look like we will stay up though. Only beaten by city, Liverpool and Chelsea since December. 1 win and 2 draws seals it. The sooner we reach 40 points the sooner the club could be sold which is absolutely the only way we move forward.
