Excellent Opportunity For Newcastle To Get Real Momentum Going

After the first 9 game played this season, Newcastle had a good 14 points after we had beaten Crystal Palace at home 1-0 and we were 6th top of the league and talk that we could do very well this season.

After the next 9  games played we had 8 defeats and a draw in those games, and we were 3rd bottom of the league after losing 1-0 at Arsenal; we had 15 points from 18 games and talk of relegation.

You talk about being up and down and on a rollercoaster at Newcastle!

In the 13 league games played since the Arsenal defeat we have picked up 20 points (5 wins 5 draws), and in the last 5 games, we have an excellent 10 points.

So we are on a very good run of form, and we also see that Rafa is usually very good at closing out seasons.

Two years we got 12 points from our final 6 games and last year we won the last three games in a row to pip Brighton for the Championship title.

And Newcastle scored 9 goals and conceded only one goal in those final 3 games.

Rafa will be drumming into his players this week that the game on Saturday is winnable against Leicester since it was a close game at home.

We know Rafa takes only one game at a time but if we can get some good results in the next few games the confidence or our players will be sky-high and this season could turn even out to be (very) successful.

We would definitely have taken a mid-season finish last August and with the team now in 12th place, we could even go higher than that if we can keep up our excellent form.

And a good finish will have Rafa holding all the cards in his negotiations with mean Mr. Ashley to get some significant transfer money to spend this summer from the owner.

Here’s hoping.

Tough ask to get anything at Leicester – our styles largely negate each other, we always play better against teams that press and leave space in behind and they have the likes of Vardy and Mahrez to create a goal from nothing.

That said, it’s a tough ask but not impossible and I fancy us to take a point this weekend.

Each game at a time and let’s not get carried away.

The boys have done fantastically well this season and no doubt will want as many points as they can.

Just hope we can keep hold of our players and improve where Rafa feels necessary once the season ends

We cannot be complacent as the season is still not over and can have a few twists. That being said I still think we can get something from this game, at least a point. We are giving Leicester way too much respect. They aren’t that much better than us on current form. We just need to be strong in the final third and we can win this.
