In what was another excellent team performance from Newcastle yesterday in the 2-1 win at Leicester City there were a few players who stood out.
Jonjo Shelvey had another first-class game, and he admits he’s in the best form of his Newcastle career, and he scored the go-ahead goal after 18 minutes.
He’s our Man of the Match with 32% of the vote.
The way Jonjo played yesterday has more pundits calling for him to be included in England’s squad for the World Cup in Russia this summer, but we doubt that manager Gareth Southgate will be taking him to Russia.
Jonjo Shelvey – scoring Newcastle’s first goal yesterday
Jonjo seems to be starting to get to grips with his indiscipline on the field and hopefully, he can keep his good record for the final six games left this season.
Ayoze Perez for the second week running scored the winning goal late in the game – this time after 75 minutes when he brilliantly lobbed the goalkeeper.
Ayoze is second in the voting with 25% of the vote.
The Spaniard is coming into some good form, and he seems to be thriving at the moment.
With his goal yesterday he’s become Newcastle’s top scorer with 6 goals this season with four of those in the Premier League: he also has 4 assists.
Last but not least we want to mention another solid display put in by local lad Paul Dummett at left-back: Paul is looking better and better as the season progresses – he’s one of Rafa’s trusted players.
Paul got 15% of the vote.
Comments welcome.

Comment #81Jane, the stick to hit Ashley with is not that he hasn’t given us a big budget but that he has given Rafa a zero budget. I do agree that Rafa is getting a buzz out of watching his lads improve week by week, but if he isn’t backed at least somewhat, he’ll start to look consider his options I feel sure.

It is nice to see someone taking money from a bookie, but in the end they are never the losers.
Enjoy your winnings Jail, just don’t go and give it all back to them.
As they say on the adverts (hypocritically) when the fun stops, stop.

Comment #84EGB, I can’t say I’m a believer in the Druidic / Pagan stuff but I tell you what, it sounds like the kind of gift that at the very least would have brought a smile to Rafa’s face a nd put a spring in his step. Who knows what kind of trickle effect that could have had on the entire squad, so fair play to you mate

Comment #87Can I just say congrats to The Imps (Lincoln City) for winning the EFL Trophy at Wembley.
A good mate of mine, Lincoln born and bred but has lived in Qatar for the last 10 years plus, flew over on Friday to see the game and he’s flying back tomorrow.
Well made up for him.

As Granny Ogden would say a good dose of “Headology” 🙂
I can’t say whether it worked or not, so proven or otherwise, who can say, but results did definitely did improve after I sent it.
So believe or disbelieve people can do either, makes no difference to me.

Bas Dost is apparently fuming and wants out of Sporting, which can only be good for Newcastle United and any other interested clubs. Sporting would want to make a big profit on the €10m they paid, and Newcastle would surely have to go above the €20m figure they’ve been so reluctant to reach.

No doubt the reason behind the lack of England interest in Shlevey is the misguided puritanical ethics of the FA who think they are above putting themselves in the firing line due to the alleged and not fully proven use of possible racist language while sanctioning the appointment of money bags Allardyce as Manager.
Nothing like covering your own backside is there.

Comment #103Shelvey suits a counter-attacking team whereas Southgate is trying to be possession based.
Swansea were all about possession when Shelvey was there.

Who is turning up?
Certain games he’s unplayable others he’s not interested and does nothing, games like Man u make you take notice and say “that boy can play”.
He needs to be more consistent and score more goals, both of which he can easily do.
The only thing keeping Shelvey out of the England team is his application.

The ethics of the Fa have lead to the downfall of the national team anyway mate in my humble opinion.
They are more concerned with the money spinner of the PL rather than what is best for England as national pride.
I think this is the first tournament in my lifetime where I have no genuine hope of England achieving greatness apart getting out of the group stage

Comment #108These Shelvey arguments just go round and round, I don’t think I’ve watched a game either this season or last where he didn’t give 100% effort, probably more a case that he’s ran too much and is knackered by the end of it.
Nowt wrong with his application imo.

Comment #110Shelvey’s effectiveness fluctuates with the opposition’s tactics – if they mark him tight, he is less effective, if they mark Kenedy tight, he has more space to be effective but Kenedy is quieter as in yesterday. This is the difference Kenedy has made to our team and is the reason why Shelvey, Perez and Richie have all seen an upturn in their form

Poor ticket sales probably shows what most hardened football fan think of the current crop of English players, And to be honest I just don’t see it improving over the next decade unless the Fa change stance. Yeah it is a great spectacle for the PL but at a clear expense to our national game.
Last summer we were winning tournament after tournament with the young stars of the future ,But what chance have they have of breaking in to there parent club if the club has just purchased a player for 60-70 million that play in there respective position.
Which would you take to happen in your life time………..Nufc to win the League or England to win the world cup ???
