Benitez – We’re Watching Lots Of Players For This Summer’s Shortened Transfer Window

With Newcastle maybe already safe in the Premier League for this season, it’s natural that Rafa will make sure everything is geared up for the summer transfer window this summer.

It is a World Cup year so maybe there will be some delays in signing players – perhaps.

There will also be a slightly shortened transfer window (22 days) this summer with the window closing on Thursday 9th August before the weekend when the Premier League will start.

But Rafa is not worried about there being less time in August and he has said there will be plenty of time for Newcastle to get in our transfer targets.

Rafa Benitez – lots of time to sign new players this summer

This is what Rafa has said as reported in the Chronicle when asked about signing new players this summer:

“We’ll have plenty of time for that.” “Because we are already working on that.”

“The players we were watching in the past, we are watching these players and even more players.”

“So it’s not that because it’s 9th August, you will not have time.”

“We will have plenty of time.”

Rafa will be keen to see how aggressive Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley will be this summer and how much transfer money Ashley will give the manager.

The last three transfer windows have been very poor ones with little money being made available to Rafa – maybe about £25M in total net funds.

That’s simply ridiculous and Rafa must be given funds so he significantly strengthen the side this summer.

Lee yes rafa has a solid record. more importantly he improves players especially in terms of defensive shape. But we can question and query any signing. If anything he would welcome the discussion. No harm in debate.

    @Munster

Certainly not mate ! It just goes to show scouting doesn’t guarantee success either Selz came with such a pedigree and I just think the pressure of playing for the Toon got to him whereas Dubruvka has kind of been plucked from obscurity and you would think he has been playing in England for years !!

I still think Murphy will come good next season he has shown glimpses of promise but is still a work in progress!

Munster there’s a huge difference between questioning Matt Selz and bringing them up every time transfers are discussed, as is there when skating someone for one defeat after winning nine in a row.

I remember reading an interview with Carragher and he says by the second season under Rafa Liverpools players were like robots and so well drilled that they were a nightmare to play against and you can see our team taking shape in this way as well if we can just add a couple of goal scorers into that mix teams will not look forward to playing us!

Earlier in the season we seemed to allow teams loads of time on the ball but now they are getting hounded and unsettled from kick off Perez in particular is great at this !

Just hope Rafa is allowed to continue with the job by getting some players to take us to the next level which would hopefully allow for cup runs next season

I think i read somewhere that Rafa had said if 70 percent of transfers are successful you’ve done well.

I have taken us for a draw against Arsenal. The last 3 times I have taken us for a draw we won the game. Let’s hope, eh?

A shortened window means less time to be linked with players who would never come.

It also means that Penfold has more excuses for “failing to get any one over the line.”

    Don’t fall for it Rafa.

Going to be a tough window for all teams in our league every club in the world knows about the TV money and now the reduced deadline means prices will go up even further !

Taking 4 weeks to secure players with release clauses for 8.7 million (Lejuene) is not going to cut it this time!

Might actually have to pay the going rate for a few players straight away!

Grealish from Villa could be worth a look. He’s never really fulfilled the early promise he showed, might be maturing at last. He scored a cracker the other night against Cardiff.

you know the last 3 transfer windows everyone keeps going on about not having money to spend well that might be the case but the players that have been brought in have done well on the whole as has the team in this time. one could get the impression that many fans at least on here are more concerned about the lack of funds than the success of the team. i question their motives. isn’t the success of the team more important? were Leicester fans unhappy when they won the league because they didn’t spend much money? at the end of the day it doesn’t matter how much money you spend if you are successful. at least be happy the team is doing well.

Rafa’s comments above at leave suggest he is going to be here and may indicate he is confident of signing some players he is after.

    Jiblets,
You were sneering at Everton’s league place after spending 180M and to justify our pi$$ poor spend, bettered by our two fellow promotion rivals. I was pointing out that relatively speaking had we spent as much as Everton, given the tremendous job Rafa has done with his low net spend we may well be pushing for that last CL spot, ambitious but not impossible. How on earth you’ve got the nerve to question my football knowledge after you included a guy who’d played twenty minutes of international friendly football in over two months in your starting line up for a vitally important you dolt.

Sorry Jib but comparing Spurs spending this summer has no weight at all.
Spurs over the last five years have spent £341,450,000 and sold £339,400,000397m on transfers.
Newcastle have spent, £206,300,000 and sold £155,600,000.
The difference is spurs have spent over 135 million more than us, that right there is several players that would have helped out club. The reason spurs are doing well is they have spend wisely over the last five years and also used players from the academy, like Harry Kane. If you remember MA didn’t want to sign Deli from MK Dons because he was to expensive where Spurs did and now he is worth in and around 25 million plus.
The biggest thing I see is they are very good with selling players and not taking a huge lose every season on players.
