Newcastle Can Do Great Things Under Rafa — If Only Ashley Will Sell The Club

Rafa will hold his press conference this afternoon for the game at home to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, and it will be televised live around the world.

Rafa will be all business as usual, and he’s nearly always in a positive mood about the next game.

After three wins on the trot as well as winning the last three games at home there; no reason to think today will be any different.

There will be the inevitable questions on his future, but we still have 6 games and 18 points to play for, and Rafa will demand a good finish from his players to what’s been a tough season.

A win on Sunday will take us over the 40 points target to 41 points – a draw will not.

Rafa Benitez – perfect manager for Newcastle

Things are still uncertain for Rafa at Newcastle, and he doesn’t know if owner Mike Ashley really wants to sell the club for around £350M in the summer.

That’s the news, but you never know what Ashley is really thinking.

Ashley selling the club seems what will be needed to get Rafa to sign a long-term deal to continue his fabulous work for the Newcastle club.

His personality, coolness, and experience have steadied the Newcastle ship even under another challenging season, and the club looks solid and stable with the Spanish manager in control.

But Ashley is a stubborn man and will want a decent price for the club.

Let’s hope the summer isn’t all about Ashley trying to sell the club he has made an investment of £268M in but has done very little to improve the club.

Things look bright for Newcastle United with Rafa as the manager, but we are now waiting for Mike Ashley to sell the club he has messed around since he bought the club in late May eleven years ago.

I know you are in the “hit” game
but this constant harping on about
Ashley selling needs to be left until
    we are mathematically safe.

Lascelles and others have said the speculation
in Autumn was a contributory factor in our shocking
    bad run of form.

    Players read social media

The Ashley bashing and takeover speculation
needs to go on the backburner for a few more weeks

    On lascelles

He’s been our most important player this season and my player of the season.

We haven’t won a game with out him, in his 9 game absence through injury 2 draws and 7 defeats. He leads through example and he’s getting better every game, he’s been our best captain for years!

Only a idiot would let him go without a fight.

Don’t see why Rafa would drop Gayle for Slimani off the back of 3 wins. Gayle and Perez defend from the front very well together now and Arsenal’s defence are susceptible to those busy type of players as Shane Long showed last weekend.

Think we’ll be unchanged again and Slimani to get 20-30mins if all is going to plan.

I’d be very surprised if Slimani doesn’t start, we’ve a really good chance to beat Arsenal.

Horses for courses, I reckon Rich tea maybe dropped also.

I can see both arguments to starting or not starting Slimani so I’m sitting firmly on the fence. What we don’t want is a situation where we were happy to see Leon Best go off injured to see Cisse.

Results of a poll on TalkSport this morning for whose home supporters are the noisiest : –

    1…… Liverpool
    2…… NUFC
    3…… Crystal Palace

We need to have SJP rocking for all our home matches and eliminate the nervy silent spells which create tension in the ground and transmits to the players.

When I say poll I mean survey as apparently there has been an official study done on this.

Op Panda that’s a great fact about Lascelles and not one I was aware of.

All credit to him for grabbing his chance and progressing so well.

Also great credit to the much maligned scouting at the time.

Darlow hasn’t really progressed but Lascelles represents 30m profit when / if he goes

Fat man can buy a couple more on their arse sports clothing brands with that

these days i’m sure who ever pulls on the shirt will give their best,

I’m happy to go with whoever Rafa picks for this game and confidant in their desire to play for our club
    which is a big plus

Betty – based on home or away fans?
Man United among the noisier away fans normally
Wouldn’t have put SJP that high currently but our away support deffo up there

Not convinced that Slimani is going to start, just due to a lack of match fitness, though he would be more bothersome than Gayle would.

Everything is lining up in our favor for this match. We’re on phenomenal form, Arsenal just got off of a tough away match in Moscow, they aren’t on good form in the league…all looks good for us. Which is why we’ll only draw or lose. (I picked draw in the survey…bad luck if I pick us to win historically) Hope I’m wrong.

Seems that the media share our expectations for 1 or 3 points on Sunday.

Good passage in the Guardian this morning:

“Few sets of fans find themselves face to face with Rudyard Kipling’s two imposters of triumph and disaster with such monotonous regularity as those who follow Newcastle. Right now the pendulum has swung towards the “decidedly upbeat” end of the scale. Their Premier League status has been all but assured, prompting reports that the possibility of a takeover is back on the boardroom table.

And if the prospect of ridding their club of Mike Ashley isn’t enough to prompt goofy grins across the Gallowgate End, that of their bitter rivals Sunderland being relegated to League One certainly is.

Arsenal visit St James’ Park this weekend, having won just three league matches on the road this season. Indeed, they go to Newcastle on the back of consecutive away defeats at the hands of Brighton, Tottenham, Swansea and Bournemouth. With Arsenal eyes firmly focused on a bigger Europa League prize, this constitutes a free swing for a buoyant Newcastle who must be fancied to end a run of 10 consecutive defeats at the hands of their visitors.

Interesting stat Betty. I think the last time I read one of those surveys (quite a few years back) Leeds United had the loudest crowd, which came as a surprise to me. Eland Rd whilst not exactly quiet didn’t strike me as a particularly intimidating crowd.

I’d like to have had ten minutes in the Leicester end when we were singing going up going down to hear how loud that was.

Also on TalkSport: – The majority of Arsenal fans surveyed on Twitter have said that even if they win the Europa Cup they still don’t want Wenger next season. They are saying that Arsenal are winning the wrong trophies. Beggars belief, ungrateful gits!

They’re very capable of winning the league yet aren’t even qualifying for the CL now, if he cares about them as much as he says he does he should swallow his pride and leave.

Good draw for Liverpool at Roma. Liverpool need the money with their debt. Can only see Arsenals financial situation become a problem next year with them not in CL. They currently repay around £14m annually in debt. Any further income drop will affect their player buying power.

I’ll be surprised if Rafa makes any changes from last weeks game he really likes Gayle as he does all the work he wants from his front men but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Fernandez in the match squad.
