In the summer Chelsea are reported to be preparing a £30M bid for Jamaal Lascelles that includes what is said to be a lucrative wage package for the 24-year old Newcastle skipper.
Chelsea don’t just want Lascelles for the way he plays but for his excellent leadership skills.
They want him to replace the departed John Terry who was such a leader for the Blues over many years.
With so many of the Newcastle players improving this season, it’s natural for some top teams to be looking at some of our players this summer.
Newcastle have been in good form the last four months and we have picked up 19 points over the previous league 11 games.
Jamaal Lascelles – Chelsea to lodge 30M bid for Newcastle captain
Rafa was asked about the speculation surrounding his captain and this is how he answered as reported in the Chronicle:
“He’s happy, training well, he’s improving, he’s focused. You can’t stop speculation about players.”
“But I was talking with him for a while last week and the focus is just trying to improve his game.
“I think at the moment – he knows he has to continue progressing and learning but he is quite happy here.”
Jamaal was given a new contract last year, and it lasts through June 2023.
Rafa may even offer him a new deal later this year depending on the interest in Jamaal from other clubs and how he is playing.
It looks like Jamaal is Rafa’s captain for Newcastle in the long-run as the manager will build a team that will compete in the top six of the Premier League.
We hope that’s sooner rather than later.

True dat, like I said Rafa holds all the aces when it comes to signing a new deal, it’s whether the fat man wants him to stay or not, he’s probably remembering the few decent finishes under a sacked league one manager.

Comment #3Lascelles needs to be the highest paid player at the club, he’s so important to how we play. To lose him would be a huge step back. If they’re knocking back £30m bids he needs to be on £30m wages.

It’s not Wenger who’ll be surprised by the intensity of the welcome it will be the Arsenal players.
Let’s hope that the ref whoever he or she (pc) is or the Arsenal players don’t overreact to the impending bursts of legal but physical tackles likely to be employed
Expect Arsenal players to fall over, play act as if they’re up for an Oscar and whinge on a scale only Chelsea players could match.

Comment #6After 11 years of having the fat cnuts boot on the clubs throat, how any NUFC fan can say Ashley doesn’t have to leave is mind boggling.
What would he have to do for some to finally wake up from their comatose?
He’s already saddled us with more debt than previous, treated the clubs fans and legends with distain, siphoned club money and assets into mash holdings and employed absolute numpties and his mates to run the club.
Beggers belief and frankly disgraceful.
