Rafa Identifies The Strength And Weakness Of This Player

Rafa Benitez is the consummate coach who wants to improve every single player he coaches as each season progresses.

He’s done that in spades this season with his young team.

Rafa has relied a lot this term on fellow compatriot Ayoze Perez, and Perez has had a good season although he has only scored 5 goals.

But that still makes him the top scorer with Dwight Gayle.

Ayoze Perez – scores last week against Leicester City

Perez cost only €2M from Tenerife in the summer of 2014, and he is likely to start alongside Islam Slimani today against Arsenal at home.

This is what Rafa said about the former Spanish U21 forward:

“Sometimes he can give the ball away, and he has to be more composed.”

“But he’s working so hard and he gives us so many options, and if he can score these kind of goals, much better for the team.”

“It’s important to have players working hard, also with some quality they can do these kind of things.”

The 24-year-old puts in a hard shift every time he plays in a black and white shirt, but he also has some critics among the fans.

Ayoze has real skills as a footballer, and he has been doing a good job for the manager – let’s hope he can play well and score this afternoon against Arsenal.

Perez has played 139 times for Newcastle with 29 goals.

If we win today, it will take us within one point of Everton in 9th place with a game in hand.

And it would give us four wins in a row and four successive wins at home.

I’m going for the same team as last week, don’t think he’s going to drop Gayle to the bench.

    2-0 to us.

Frustrating yes. But Perez has played a big role in us being 10th.

Think Arsenal will be too good for us today. PEA will prove to be the difference between the teams. 3-1 Arsenal.

So who was the guy giving me grief for saying they Peter could play for city? As I said then he wud never be a first choice there but he has touch and vision. Possibly my favourite player now but Kenedy and Lejeune are up there too. I really hope rads plays slimani but don’t think he will at start. Do I sound like a 10yr old? 🙂

Southampton would need to get 11 points from the remaining 15 possible to them to catch us now, If Stoke managed to win today they’d need 9 from 15 but only if we were to lose all of our remaining games. Of course if that highly unlikely event was to happen we’d bugg@r up our GD difference.

And I still think we can get to a positive GD.

Munster yes a bit but I wouldn’t worry about it. 🙂

With the nature of the blog and the people on it your’e always going to get differing opinions on the qualities of players.

Take me for example I really thought that Diame was a hopeless case but he’s really made me eat my words, I’m chuffed to bits that he has though.

EGB yep agree. Dyche has to be a candidate for manager of the season. His ability to extract the most from limited resources is invaluable. Remind you of anyone?

“I was thinking about that when I was at Liverpool because everything was going well, but the change of owners in football now changes everything.”

from last article. is Rafa saying he doesn’t want a change of owner? as everything is going well.

    2-1 Diame, Slimani

I know we are too confident but what the heck. I will be surprised if Rafa doesn’t crunch the percentages and get us to defend at all costs this game for the point.

Yeah I think he will be a bit more defensive today. Even if we lose as long at it’s not 4-0 morale will ok.
I’d be happy with a draw. But I do think arsenal are beatable.

Boys I’m going to clean the TV screen today cos we’re gonna win. I really hope we suffocate them from KO but Rafa may have coached us to sit back for this one and hit on break. I dont think so though….. I think he will have us hounding them up the pitch

Loving the positivity this week seems to be even leaking into the press. I do get nervous when we get our expectations up for a victory though. It’s classic toon thar, so it’s acceptable. Still, I’d be happy with a draw. Here w’gan!
