Pundit’s Uplifting News On Rafa – Wants Newcastle In Top Six Next Season

Mick Quinn has been talking on Alan Brazil’s Breakfast Show this morning, and he says that Rafa Benitez is keen to stay at Newcastle, but only if he gets full backing so he can make Newcastle into a top six side next season.

And with the news today that some Arsenal fans want Rafa to replace Arsene Wenger at the Gunners, Mick says he doesn’t want to manage Arsenal.

But he has received other offers in the two years he’s been our manager.

This will not be too much of a surprise to Newcastle fans since Rafa has often talked affectionately about the city, the club, and the fans.

The only thing he wants is full backing from the hierarchy, and he hasn’t had that from Mike Ashley – so far.

A smiling and happy Rafa Benitez

This is what Mick Quinn has said on Alan Brazil’s Breakfast Show on talkSPORT:

“Let me put this to bed straight away.” “He wants to stay at Newcastle, he’s got a year left, and he’s had other offers.”

“If he gets the backing he will stay at Newcastle. He loves the club and the fans.”

“I was speaking to him on Friday, actually, and he wants to see this job through and see Newcastle above Arsenal next year, possibly in the top six.

“That’s the ambition Benitez has, but it’s whether Newcastle can match that ambition. I got this from the horse’s mouth on Friday.”

It will be interesting to see what Mike Ashley does from now on.

He hasn’t been to many games at all this season, and he was missing on Sunday when we achieved safety in the Premier League.

Ashley may want to sell the club quickly this summer and leave it to the new owners to tie Rafa down to a new long-term contract after telling him they match his ambitions for Newcastle.

We hope that’s what happens.

Rafa Benitez commits to Newcastle for next season after
Mike Ashley’s faith pays off with club ‘going forward’
Benitez admits his project in the north-east is only just getting started

    Martin Hardy – The Independent

The 56-year-old Spaniard has revealed he believes he is just at the beginning
of his project in the north-east, having led the club to the Championship last season
and tenth place in the Premier League at present.
Potential takeover talk has all but ended, with Mike Ashley
ruling out any approach from Amanda Staveley in mid-January,
following her failure to reach the club’s asking price.
There is an increasing likelihood that he will remain as owner
.the landscape has changed dramatically. Benitez was allowed to make three signings in January, two of which have proved crucial. The goalkeeper Martin Dubravka’s loan deal from Sparta Prague will become permanent once the campaign finishes and Benitez admitted he will fight hard to sign Kenedy on a permanent deal in the summer after his successful loan move from Stamford Bridge.
All three recruits – Islam Slimani was the other – were chosen by Benitez, as were the six permanent signings made during the summer following promotion. The Spaniard, having asked for former chief scout Graham Carr to be moved on, now has full autonomy on incoming players.
The club is moving up at the minute,” he said. “What you have is all the potential; the fans, the stadium, the fans going to games away and at home, the city behind us.
“We have a very good group of players at the moment in terms of mentality and they decide to succeed. Everything is fine but we are at the beginning, that is very clear now. We have to keep a lot of things that we have done well for the next season.
“If you are at the beginning you still have plenty of room for improvement. If I decide to stay in the Championship it’s because I could see fans, city environment, everything, staff, everybody was really, really delighted to see things going forward.
