Rafa To Make Move For Winger – Must Be Prepared To Pay Big Fee

Now that Newcastle are safe in the Premier League after four successive wins Rafa will soon be opening talks with Chelsea on whether they will sell the Brazilian U23 star to Newcastle.

Rafa will want some early transfer business done before the summer, and he has already decided to sign 29-year-old goalkeeper Martin Dubravka for €4M from Sparta Prague.

Martin has been absolutely outstanding for us since he arrived on the final day of the January transfer window.

That was an excellent move by Rafa who has wanted a new goalkeeper since last summer.

Rafa Benitez congratulates Kenedy after victory over Arsenal

And 22-year-old Kenedy has also been outstanding for us, and this lad has real class, but he will also be attracting some other top clubs.

Rafa tried to sign him last summer and in January, but the only choice for Rafa from Chelsea was to sign him on loan.

And Chelsea would not agree to an option to buy in the loan agreement.

But Kenedy knows he has played very little at Chelsea (7 first team appearances over the last two seasons) and if he goes to other big clubs – like PSG, Arsenal or Tottenham – he may once again be on the bench biding his time.

At Newcastle, he will be a starter, and Mr. Benitez can make him into a world-class player since Kenedy seems very willing to learn from the Spanish manager, whom he says has been like a father to him.

Kenedy could cost as much as £20M – but quite honestly given what the lad can become under Rafa Benitez at Newcastle – he’s worth that fee.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

If Burnley give Chelsea a good scudding
at Turf Moor tonight Conté could be gone
which could help with signing Kenedy

    Re, Ed’s article,
I truly hope we sign both the above mentioned players as they’ve helped galvanise the team since their arrival, and my only hope now is that Rafa manages to avoid any of the team going into “flip-flop” mode as the main jobs “done”!!

Thanks, geordie1 and Rob, I’m sure I’ll pick it up on one of those euro sat channels, not sure I’ll get to a bar, early start and I’ll be knackered by ko time (2045 local) – getting too old for late night revelry!

Hi Jib, thanks, the apartment I’m staying in has a large selection of “paid for” satellite channels, so I’m hoping I’ll be OK.

if conte goes maybe their new manager would want to keep kenedy and have a longer look at him.
also given his impact, 20m is being optimistic. also want chelsea to beat burnley so we can nick 7th….. lol !!!

On match days, me and my mates used to frequent “the vaults”, which was kind of a back alley pub belonging to the hotel (can’t remember it’s name) opposite Theatre Royal on Grey Street. The Street’s called Highbridge and connects to the Groat Market/Bigg Market.

Ginger Burns’ way of calling time at the Jungle
was “right we’ve got your money so f–k off”
    A real charmer Alan was.

Mr Cashley that’s seven zeros required after the 2 ( £20,000,000 ) not 6. If you dither about Kenedy as a signing then i’m sure Rafa will walk and you will go down in history as a complete D##khead

I know we rate Kenedy very highly (and we should) but when you look at the Chelsea team and the rest of their loan army you realize that he’s just another average player in their team.

He transforms our team… he is just another unused sub in theirs.

Chelsea has let far better players go in their effort to continually balance the books and fund larger purchases (Salah, DeBruyne, Lukaka, etc) so I think we have a good chance at this one. The only challenge would be a bidding war rather than Chelsea fighting to hold onto him.

Signing Kenedy on loan has been a double edged sword, He has played a big part in our PL survival but we have put him in the shop window. Our best chance of landing him will be if Ashley sells up. If Ashley stays then Rafa will leave because Ashley won’t back him
