Rafa Press Conference – He Wants Club To Match His Ambitions

Rafa Benitez was asked at his press conference this afternoon about his future at Newcastle, now that we have surged to safety with four wins in a row.

Rafa needs for Newcastle (as in Mike Ashley, the owner) to match his ambitions for the club and it’s very dubious that will be the case.

Maybe Mike can fudge it?

🙂

But Rafa is now ready to talk in detail with Mike Ashley to see how things are regarding the future.

Rafa will need to know what Ashley wants to do with the club – whether he still wants to sell it – and how much money the manager will be given to spend this summer.

Rafa will also bring up the improvements in various parts of the club he wants to see.

At least two of those are the Youth Academy and the training facility at Benton.

This is some of what Rafa has said this afternoon:

“My position now is to know what the ideas of the club are. Do they share the same vision? I hope to talk soon.”

“It is a massive club but my position is we have games to play and I concentrate on them. It’s not time to talk about that.”

“The situation is clear for me, I can feel the passion and ambitions of the fans. Now I just need to know the club match my ambitions too.”

“I’d like to speak to them about that as soon as possible”

“It’s not the time for me to talk about that (Arsenal job).”

It is crucial that Mike Ashley not only says the right things to Rafa, but he means it this time.

Once bitten twice shy – so Rafa will want cast-iron assurances from the owner if he is to stay on Tyneside.

Here we go again. Rafa gets assurances from Ashley and then Ashley goes back on his word citing lack of available funds.

Rafa should just say I will agree a new contract but will not sign it until the transfer window closes. That will force Ashley’s hand into having to buy the players Rafa wants.

    Good on ya Rafa.

Rafa’s position’s been made crystal clear and we can but hope Ashley engaged in serious and pro active discussions with him to take the club forward.

The drawback to,Rafa’s comments being made to the media suggests that he’s been hitting a brick wall so far in trying to make progress with Ashley and we are well aware that Ashley has a dislike for negotiations to be carried out in the public domain.

We can but wait and hope that Ashley picks up the baton and runs with it.

With a little bit of backing there is no reason why we can’t be best of the rest next season (7th) if we could sign Dubruvka , Kennedy , Slimani and 2 or 3 other players of similar quality !

Everton are usually thereabouts but will either have Big Sam or a new manager who will then need to take time to get it together !

Leicester are more likely to be on the way down as Puel could leave and Mahrez / Vardy could be sold

Burnley will overachieve again but they have had some amount of luck!

Bournemouth manager has already said earlier in the season they are struggling to be able to afford the next level of player and wages

If we keep Rafa and the core players from this season with a sprinkling of extra quality we should be able to hit the ground running and leave relegation fears behind us plus the likes of Merino , Hayden, Murphy and Armstrong could develop with another years experience to give us more competition for places !

I kinda think Rafa has Mikey over a barrel….

    Even before the Arsene situation.

Will Mikey blink and realise he has the only manager of this quality who wants to manage our club OR does he text Pards to come back on the promise he will release him if ‘ I am a celebrity get me out if here’ come calling for him ?

That would be the Percy Arms in Chatton. Excellent pub, agreed.

The only question if ÂŁ50-60m profit in addition to player sales is enough to satisfy Rafa should Mash remain. Mash isn’t putting any money in and that’s the situation we have.

If Ashley does get back to Rafa, he’ll probably issue a can’t/ won’t fo anything as the club’s up for sale, drag it out and hope that Rafa hangs on – without the commitment he’s looking for.

    I hope I’m wrong.

HA HA Mr Cashley, No more dodgy aces to place against Rafa. He’s got you sussed now. So it’s put up or bye bye Rafa. He now knows that his services are required elsewhere and not from a second rate team that scrimp and scrape to get by.
If you want to get top dollar or want to be in it for the long haul ( which everyone doubts ) you need to give this man ( Rafa ) everything written down on paper in his new contract. He has done all the hard work and proven himself to everyone and you. He is adored on Tyneside as well as the world stage, But we have one BIG advantage, He wants to stay here with us. So do something about it or pass the club onto someone that will do this for NUFC without being too greedy.

Bloody hell the blog’s morphed into an estate agent. I’m sure we are all aware of Rightmove and others if we want to find a retirement cottage! Lol

I doubt AS has the financial backing to take the club forward even if they meet Ashley’s price! Our best bet might be Ashley for another year or so provided he gives Rafa enough to get us competing for top eight.
I hope and pray Ashley doesn’t cock this up now and we lose Rafa because we are now in the best position to move forward for years!
