Since Robert Kenedy came to Newcastle in January, he has been absolutely outstanding on the left wing for us, and he has helped transform Newcastle along with Martin Dubravka, who is on loan from Sparta Prague.
The two of them have helped in an amazing transformation this year, and we now have four wins in a row and 26 points from our last 15 games, and we are safe in the Premier League.
And Benitez is anxious to sign Kenedy on a permanent deal this summer, but he has admitted that may be difficult for Newcastle with some top clubs like Arsenal, PSG and Bayern Munich said to be interested in the player.
There are some advantages for Newcastle to sign the 22-year-old – he loves playing for Rafa, he seems to enjoy everything on Tyneside, Rafa knows his agent, and he is getting first team football at Newcastle.
And the fans love the lad.
He may not get all that at a bigger club, including if he goes back to Chelsea next season.
Kenedy – after scoring against the Saints
Rafa has said it may be easier to get him on loan for this season – although it was difficult enough to get him in on loan this season.
This is what Rafa has said today in the Mail after the latest interview in which Kenedy praises Rafa and Newcastle:
“I have seen the interview and what he said. I know his agent, so the point with him is that he’s doing well.”
“I am happy because we’ve been winning and he’s been scoring goals and that’s fantastic for us and really good news for him.”
“The situation is that Chelsea need to know where they will finish and we need to know where we will finish.”
“There is plenty of time to talk.”
“But if you’re asking me (if a loan is the best option), I’d say yes, you’d have to ask them as well.”
“It wasn’t easy to bring him here and it won’t be easy to bring him here again.”
“You can’t change that [interest from PSG, Arsenal, and Bayern Munich) if you want to win games and he is doing well, you have to play him.”
“If he is doing even better than fine, fair enough it will be more difficult for us for sure, but he is so happy at Newcastle – he will be keen to stay.”
If we cannot sign Kenedy permanently this summer, the next best option is to get him on loan for next season.
That would at least mean we can keep Kenedy and Dubravka with Rafa able to sign the Slovakian goalkeeper this summer for €4M.
Then with say four new players brought in additionally this summer we could have a very good team for next season.
Sounds great to us!
